OT: How would you handle this......Part II (What the Heck??)

Hi,
So I'd posted previously about a new job I accepted.
Yeah since you are being paid only for 40 hrs a week then at the end of the week, could you say, well I have worked 2 hrs extra yesterday since I had to stay late so today I'm leaving 2 hrs early?
Mel;
You dont want to go back to your family because you dont get along with your stepdad?? If that is the case then can your mom help you out here and there??If she can then I would do that ..
You already have room mates right?? I was thinking what about a less expensive apt. or more room mates? Moving to a cheaper place..
I know how expensive Canada is and you guys are taxed up the ying yang because of socialized medicine and all. People dont realize that even though you guys get free stuff the taxes are crazy. Am I right on that one?
Can you go to a food pantry or get any kind of govt. aid..??? Just throwing out ideas.
I agree with Music.. Discreetly look for another job.. There has to be a way where they wont know.. How can they? I would also look for other part time work even if it was cleaning a house on the weekends. It will put some cash in your pocket.
Sorry Mel but sounds like a catch 22 and you are in the middle.. Just do your job for now and do the best you can and speak up when you can
Hi,
Re: the OT - this is how they do it.
I think I'd start looking if you can do it discreetly.
Hi,
I guess that's the big issue......my family's divorce was messy and my family situation is not good..........I would do anything NOT to have to live with them.......it's terrible.
oh; Mel.. Vent away if it helps..
I understand all of your frustrations and the limited amt. of money you have to live on.. You might have to get more creative as we are all in a big economic downturn right now.. Not that I am comparing myself to you but I am in the red every month after I pay rent, food, expenses, etc.etc.. I am always looking for work and other opportunities every single minute of my life.. You are def. not alone in this.
What about taking a second job a few hours on the weekends? This way you have some extra money and you dont have to spend it going out.. There must be also free things to do in Canada or things that are way less expensive.. Hey; you could walk dogs for extra
Hi,
Thanks for both of your responses - I can see why people can't understand why I'm whining about this job (and yes, I know I'm whining).
Basically, in my previous jobs I was making significantly more money (e.g. $20-$25/hour, with some responsbility to travel - e.g. overnight, or put in PAID overtime as required).
I agree with music .
I would like to add that no job is worth endangering your life so yes ask them to pay for a taxi.. but I wouldnt turn down any work they wanted you to do.. they might see you as not having a husband or kids which I know is sexist but it is what it is. I remember when I was a single mom and I had to run to get my son at school at 3 pm.. So I would leave one job and then bring him home to my parents to watch. I would then go to another job at night or weekends.
Are you considered a salaried employee, which I wouldn't think so if you have an admin position.
