OT--looking for a new job

I have really disliked my current job for a while now. I have been there 17 yrs--first I worked part time and tried doing cases (law) on my own but it was too difficult to try to juggle 2 things so eventually I went to my current job (almost) full time. I took this job cause I was a single parent with little kids and it's hard to get a job as a lawyer that you don't have to work over 40 hours a week. Well it was good for that but now I have very low pay for what I do and I have no benefits. I have talked to my boss about paying for my health insurance but he always has some excuse. And I get no benefits of any kind, not even paid sick days. When I look at jobs with big companies and see the extensive benefits they have it really makes me upset that I have been taken advantage of. Plus my boss used to be very hands off which I liked. In the past year or so, he has suddenly decided that he wants to be more involved, which basically means taking over. Thankfully he only works 1/2 days but he's so obnoxious. It's like he suddenly knows everything and won't listen to my opinion--meanwhile he hasn't seen the inside of a courtroom in all the time I've been there yet he suddenly thinks he can start doing trials--cause he's smarter than everybody. So of course I am looking for a job.
It's so much of a hassle to apply for jobs now. My friend, who is in HR, helped me on my resume and do the current style, which is less about just liting your chronological jobs--you have to list your core competencies. So I spend all this time doing that and yet every place seems to make you apply on line--and put dates. I didn't want to put the date I graduated from college for obvious reasons (age discrimination) but you can't submit your application without doing that. And even though I upload my resume, then basically you have to re-type all your info again. Even the court website--first they had a specific application which I filled out and saved so I could keep reusing it--then they went to applying on line, then since the last time I did that, now they added additional boxes to the application. So in the past 1 1/2 hours, I think I did 2 applications. Hopefully I'll at least get an interview. There is one job with the court that's like 5 mins. from my house & it pays really well and I know I could do it--of course those jobs are in great demand.
