That's what I said to myself this morning after I went to renew my driver's license. It doesn't even look like the person that I *think* I see in the mirror much less, the person I see in my head. I hated my last one so badly, that I spent two hours getting prepared (yes, I'm that vain) and even went and bought fake eyelashes for the first time in my life.
I've realised that it's my smile that I detest. I have huge lips and a broad smile but my palette is narrow so if I smile too broadly, I get the Rachel Ray slash Joker smile. Ugh. Two hours down the drain. I even practiced in the mirror before I left! I had it down to a science; a half grin with a tiny bit of teeth showing. What did I do when I sat down for the picture? I smiled as broadly as I could! LOL!
I still have my license from 15 years ago. I look almost nothing like that 20-something. Aging is so much fun, I tell you!
On the brighter side, I was only there for about an hour and I sat down next to a Chatty Kathy who had some interesting stories to share.
Has anyone here ever been happy with their DL picture??????
On a side note, Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Be well and stay safe.

That's so odd. They must pay the employees to compliment folks because I recieved three myself! One came out of the lady's mouth when the picture she'd just taken popped up on her computer. I was thinking, wow finally, a good DL picture! Ha! I started to immediately ask to take another but the waiting room was still half full of peeps so I thought that would be selfish. I'm sure I'll hold onto it like I did the one from 5 years ago. I'm too cheap to pay another $20 anyway!
That's really funny about the pics. My license pic is ok/not great even though they do let you look at the picture & ask you if you want another one before they use it. My passport pic is terrible. I had it done at a pharmacy and after the 1st one the photographer said "Oh we can't use that because you smiled and you can't smile." I don't know if that's a new rule or what. But why didn't she say that before she took the picture? The 2nd one came out terrible & that's the one I had to use. My previous passport pic was bad too because the guy told me I needed to have my eyes open & I opened them so much I looked kind of bug eyed. But I think I smiled in that one.
I have NEVER been photogenic, except as a small child. I know many people who are not all that attractive in person who photograph beautifully.

OK, had to sign in three times before it worked.... I don´t have a DL, but my passport photo was OK. However, 2/3 of the photo page has now loosened and I need to get a new passport. I got visa to Russia recently (returned from St.Petersburg on Wednesday) and had to take new photos for that. Will use it for my new passport and it is not great (but will not spend more money on photos!). No glasses (even though I use them all the time) as that was not to be used on visa photo, no smiling by all means, hair almost behind the ears as the ears had to be shown and I had a bad hair day.... Rather tragic. But I suppose it will have to do...
Oh, I can relate. I prepped big time for my last DL photo this year. I had to go in humid July, so it was a challenge getting from the parking lot to inside the building with perfectly flat-ironed hair!! I didn't hate my last photo 10 years ago, but I knew I didn't want to look at a bad photo for the next 10 years. I took a horrid passport photo a few years ago. Really, it's awful. It doesn't even look like me.
So the results of my DL photo weren't bad...but I felt it made my face look fat, and I don't even have a fat face. I felt I looked old, too. But it was funny, because the woman renewing my license said, "Oh, you photograph well," when she looked at it coming off of the machine. OK, whatever.
You can always "lose" your license if you hate the photo badly enough. But I think at my place they'd let you take it again right then if you really hated it.
And I can't ever imagine full lips being a liability, but I had to laugh over the Rachel Ray slash Joker smile. I'll have to pay attention next time I see her.
In MA if you lost your license, you wouldn't even get a new picture, because they store them in their records, so they would just send you the same old picture again.
