I remember as a child we would be able to leave our front doors unlocked and feel safe. We could walk around the corner to our friends house without our parents worrying if we would get there ok. No more. Today, a 19 year old boy walked into the mall next to where i work and opened fire killing 9 people and wounding others. This makes me sick. Everywhere outside the mall , including my work, was on lockdown. You see these things happen on the news and think how lucky that its not your town. But today it was my town.

I think you and I agree on a lot. You however write FAR better than I do. (-:
So True. Our states have become such a nanny state. NH used to listen to it's constituents and yet lately it's become more and more like it's neighbor MA and I'm not liking it at all. At one time it NH issued a seatbelt law and a helmet law, the people of the state spoke up and said we don't want it, we want the right to make that decision for ourselves. The legislature listened and backed off and took those laws off the books (except of course for minor children) Now the seatbelt business is coming back again.
MA now is talking about a no spanking law. They did a poll the other day that was something like 98% of the people of MA were against this law. Knowing MA they will probably pass it. They don't give two whoots what their people in the state want. Since when do the lawmakers listen to what the people in their state want.
Why is there such a disconnect between the people and the elected??? Why aren't they listening to us and why isn't there more of an outrage. And what really burns my britches. A few years ago I voted 3rd party in a governors election in MA because quite frankly I liked what she had to say and I thought she was the best candidate. Did I think she would win, probably not but she was the best candidate. Everyone said to me, well your vote is wasted blah blah blah and people said, I liked her too but I didn't vote for her because I knew she wouldn't win because she wasn't a dem or a republican. Well if more people would start voting for who they really wanted, for who they really felt might make a difference maybe we would actually see a 3rd party get elected, unless people are willing to take a stand and vote for someone OTHER than a dem or republican you aren't going to see a change, so take some chances people and vote for someone different. So they don't get elected this time. Hell write someone in. I did that too.

Speaking of, how on Earth did this kid get an AK-47??

Stole it from his step father I belive. It is the most sold weapon on the planet . .China took the design and ran with it.
A for your other comment . .agreed, kind of. (-: I tend to vote republican, why I am not sure these days, big government, big spending fools . .. LoL I however am an Atheist. The funny thing is when I read the constitution I don't see a thing about the separation of church and state. (-: I see something about not establishing a religion . .Protestants or Catholics or Muslims are not spouse to take over . .LoL. Bit when I read a lot of the things written by the men who wrote that document I find it default to belive they had the slightest intention of making it wrong to mention the word God in public. (-: They were deliberately trying to protect us from theocracy, not from God. (-:
Is it odd that an atheist would defend believers? LoL We the people . . right? It is who a HUGE portion of the "people" are . .
Ok, but I have my own views in the way of God and a higher power and what have you and I don't feel that I should have to conform to Christian ideals because that's who happens to be running the country.

Me too.
Yes we do agree on a lot and I appreciate your perspective on this board :)
This is a topic I am particularly passionate about because I work with delinquents (when I have a job that is) and I can see all sides of this topic.
I dunno - sometimes that doesn't sound too bad to me anymore. (not that I'm voting for her - I'm just saying...)
Parents sure don't seem to know what the hell they're doing anymore. Their kids are nothing more than accessory items with cute little names. As soon as they become a burden they don't want anything more to do with them.
I'm tired of people not wanting to take responsiblity for their actions. Maybe this is what should happen to get people to sit up and take notice of their behavior.
Smile,
Deirdre
