Our chaotic world

I remember as a child we would be able to leave our front doors unlocked and feel safe. We could walk around the corner to our friends house without our parents worrying if we would get there ok. No more. Today, a 19 year old boy walked into the mall next to where i work and opened fire killing 9 people and wounding others. This makes me sick. Everywhere outside the mall , including my work, was on lockdown. You see these things happen on the news and think how lucky that its not your town. But today it was my town.

As for the AK-47, don't you think it should have been a little more difficult for this kid to get?

I'm surprised that others have agreed with you, as well.

What I mostly don't understand about your assertions is how you can separate yourself so completely from your society. However you may feel about our society, you are a product of it, you are immersed in it daily and you contribute to it daily.

Whether we like it or not, we are all intimately connected to one another. Society is not a foreign machine - it is every one of us. It may not seem like you have a noticeable impact on society, or that it has a noticeable impact on you, but I think that is just an illusion. You are inextricably linked to society.

This is a topic I am particularly passionate about because I work with delinquents (when I have a job that is) and I can see all sides of this topic.

I am not separated from society, I am very much a part of it. And this society you will be surprised is more mainstream than you think. Reagan referred to them as the silent majority. Silent, only because they were completely excluded from academia and the mainstream media. Well not any more.

Example -- leading upto the '04 elections, the media leads us to believe- every American hates Bush, the country hates Bush, the world hates Bush, the entire Universe hates Bush.

Result -- despite non-stop, 24/7, round the clock Bush bashing in the media for years, Bush routs Kerry by 4 million votes; Canada, France, Germany and Japan, the supposedly most ardent opponents of the 'Bush Regime', overwhelmingly elect center-right pro-Bush leaders. Now will you believe the media, or will you believe your own lying eyes ?

The uneducated are the ones breeding earliest and most often. Ever think that maybe the "majority" aren't necessarily the best ones running things?

"Speaking of, how on Earth did this kid get an AK-47??"

Same way the kid who was going to shoot up Plymouth-Whitemarsh HS a few months ago got his stash - and he had more armor than the troops in Iraq! - his mama probably bought it for him.

I saw this! You have to wander if she was making him cute pointy white hats and teaching him proper cross burning as well? LoL I know its not funny, but its not like dad got his son a hunting riffle after years of father son outings and lessons in responsible gun safety. She just up and bought a kid a bunch of weapons . . . what's up with that? (-;

I would love to know the whole story about MOM in that case. Even a bargain basement Chinese made piece of crap AK is a solid 3 to 4 hundred dollar investment. So this women clearly was smart and stable enough to maintain a job. So I have to ask, what makes her think arming her kid to the teeth is a GOOD idea. (-:

I was never over protective with my kids, but Machine Guns were a no no

I am very sorry you felt demeaned by my statement. It was not directed at anyone in particular.

Unfortunately, facts are facts.

And now I'm done. Carry on.
