I read somewhere that the level of happiness increases once a person reaches a salary of $30,000, but pretty much stays the same after that -- more money doesn't usually mean more happiness unless the money is pulling you out of poverty.
I do believe that married people are happier in general, but I think it's because of having a fallback network. I think
Yeah, exactly. I also have a feeling that, for some, it's not actually about the person to whom they are married - but the fringe benefits of marriage (more money, shared expenses, more friends, a sense of security, or whatever).
Also, I know several truly happily married couples, and I wouldn't say they are necessarily happier than me. Having a partner doesn't make you immune to life's difficulties and upsets. It probably makes those difficulties more bearable if you are happy with your partner -- but life is still hard sometimes.
If I were making over $75,000, I am sure I would be a lot let stressed over money. :-) I think the over $30,000 needs to be revised since I make over that and I certainly don't feel as well off as someone making over $75,000, or
I guess if a couple is able to eliminate the money issue in their marriage then more would have a chance of being successful.
Its all relative. People who have more spend more. It's not as if just because you make 75k all of your woes in life disappear nor all your debt suddenly does. My aunt and uncle make over 200k combined, they still have a mortgage and car payments. It's all relative but they also could have a tragedy and one could die tommorow and half of that could be gone.
More money, doesn't necessarily mean 0 debt. Just means you have a little more money to play with and they still argue just like any other couple.

AJ, enjoying life with C.
>> I'd love to see a more detailed survey that delves into "why" married people report being happier or more satisfied with their lives.

I don't know....to me, those salary numbers seem awfully arbitrary.
