Happy 2006, everyone!!

So, here it is, the question everyone will be asked at one time or another in the coming weeks: Does anyone have a New Year's resolution? How about goals for 2006?

I really don't. I've never made resolutions this time of year... I usually wait until something strikes me in say, June, and then go with that! Thankfully though, life has changed quite enough on it's own lately so I'm off the hook for now. :-)

As far as goals, I just registered for a marathon so I'd say that is the biggest one as of today. However, like the resolutions, I'm sure a variety of other things will come up in the next 364 days :-)

My only two goals are to quit smoking and be better at handling work stress. I am much more worried about the first one than the second...

That first one is tough! I will support you 100% from afar... there are several people in my life I hope will quit so when someone says they're going to, I'm supportive like crazy. Best of luck and I'm pulling for ya!
Work stress and quitting smoking don't go hand-in-hand so maybe that will help you at work, too. You'll just say to yourself, "I can't stress about this because it will make me want to smoke and I don't want to smoke." Well, I suspect it's a lot tougher than that but I wish you much luck!

I have resolved to get my act together and lose weight this year. No more excuses.

And to try to quit my nail biting habit...that one never works, but we'll give it a whirl.

You wanna know how I quit biting my nails?

I started chewing on the skin next to them.

Yeah...problem is I also chew the skin around my nails...god its a disgusting habit. I tried fakes for a few months but those are expensive for the upkeep and as soon as they came off, I was back at it (plus I couldnt adjust to having nails..things like typing, putting on my jewelry and such became such a chore).

I'll have to check out fitday. If its free why not right? I resolve to stay away from the food court across the street from my school too. Its very conveient but difficult to make healthy choices. Theres a salad bar down the street I found last semester...that place will become my new friend I think. All fresh salad mixings plus a sandwhich bar and a fridge for yogurts, smoothies, drinks etc...

What sucks is that its expensive to eat healthy ya know? Everything that is good for you is higher priced. Ah well...guess its an adjustment, pretty soon you dont even notice Im sure.

My sister had a nail biting habit for years. She tried just about everything, nothing worked. Then one day, just like you, she said enough is enough and just quit. She'll still do it once in a while when she's nervous or worried but not on a regular basis. I guess it was just the right time. Sounds like it is for you, too.

I also use fitday.com. It's really helpful to see how many calories are REALLY in something. I think food journaling in general is one of the biggest motivators. Otherwise, things just sneak in and you don't even realize it.
