Ruby got me thinking...

Hi everyone,

The post started by rubyshoes about where everyone lives got me thinking. It seems like there are areas (Chicago definitely being one of them) where several of us single folks live. Now, personally, I know some great men who I am friends with but have no interest in dating. I would imagine that this is the case for most of us. Why don't we make that work to our advantage?

Maybe we could set up something where those of us in the same area get together for coffee and meet one another in person. If I knew someone great on this board and thought that they might get along with a man that I know, I would be happy to arrange a meeting. It could be a blind date or it could be a more casual meeting in a group situation.

I have to admit to enjoying a bit of matchmaking. I have been reasonably successful at it in the past.

Maybe this is a crazy idea, but I just thought that I would put it out there.

If only Chicago and Denver were closer :-) I'd definitely participate!

Hi Jules,
I think your idea is great! It kinda reminds of the Sex In The City episode where Charlotte threw a party, where everyone had to bring an ex to the party for others to meet :)

It's always nice to meet new people and - who knows - maybe you will meet some great single guy that you want to set up in the future. :)

it was done by a bunch of ivillagers some 5 years ago jules...

when we had the chatrooms alive and kicking a gang of ivillagers from the chat rooms LOBBY lobby 2 relationships, etc got together for a big weekend getogether down in charlotte south carolina...( i think thats where it was). It was planned and put together by two or three local people and the rest came from all over the USA. It wasn't easy i asure you. it took a good 3 months planning and prep.

Hotel reservation/room blocking...food to purchase, party/bar nights planned.
I was not able to go because it happened shortly after my hysterectomy and my money all went for that dang bill. A website was posted with pix and stories posted by those who attended.

it looked like everyone enjoyed it.

I know without openchat format its harder to plan these things. But you could try to plan an mid-central..tri-state ivillage board gettogether.

heck, we all could. if we thought about it. Though time consumming it would be well worth it.

new englanders, easterner, midwesterners, westerners, northerners, southerners, etc.
it may be difficult to do it by townies. I dont think there are many of you from my surroundings...Southwestern PA (counties: greene,Fayette, somerset, westmoreland, etc)

the idea is great, planning it and pulling it off is another.
good luck.

I wasn't proposing that people from all over the country get together in one place but rather that we each get together with other iVillagers that live in our own areas. I can barely plan my own trips, can't imagine trying to get something like that together. :)

Sounds like a great idea in theory. Wish I was closer to Chicago!
