Shopping for men

I have to say, each Christmas that I'm single, I'm thankful that I don't have to buy for a boyfriend or husband. They are the hardest people to shop for. I did finally get a list from my 21 year old nephew (he wants clothes, thankfully- that's easy), but my stepdad and brother in law...I'm lost. I don't ever get them anything too big, but I like to get them something. My stepdad likes to fish, bowl, and hunt. My brother in law...hmm...he knits...and watches tv. And eats.
Any help? Suggestions? I'm not a fan of giving gift cards. I like to get gifts for the thought, not just to say I'm giving a gift.

Oh, from the title of your post, I thought you meant you were looking for a man :) :)
Anyhoo, I've done away with buying gifts for adults since it's so wasteful. Unless you're really close to the person and know what they really want. Most of the time what they want you can't afford so you end up buying less expensive things they don't need.
Shy I too am having problems posting.
I am voting for a cash gift card that can be spent anywhere. I don't go to resturants much (once in the last year).
Gotta say, I really think that most guys are happy with gift cards. My mother bought her brother a Kuerig in Aug for his Christmas gift. He texted her early this week that he bought himself one and found 8 o'clock coffee in k-cups. She is devestated and texted him back something along the lines of 'Well, there goes your Christmas gift' His response? 'That's why I give gift cards' I do think that if you know WHAT they like, a specifc GC is just fine. I told her to take all the money she had spent on the Kuerig and turn it into a GC for K-cups.
I am glad you posted this shy because I cant figure out what to get my son and his gfriend.. I am trying to make it a gift for both as they have everything.. I at first thought of some sports thing as they are sports nuts but have no clue.. the gfriend works at Lowes so she has just about everything ..
I am def. leaning towards those gift baskets filled with food and goodies.. or maybe a memorabilia sports team shirt or sweatshirt or jacket..
thank you
I don't like giving gift cards either, but I agree that guys are very hard to shop for. In my opinion it is either because their interests are so limited they already have everything they need for them or they just don't have any interests. And then you have to consider how your gift will be perceived. Since you're shopping for male relatives you have way more choices, but if it were a boyfriend? Clothes or household items would probably remind him of something his mom would get him.
So your stepdad likes to fish. Does he also gut them and such himself? If so there are always new gadgets being made to make that process easier. You could always head to a fish supply place and check out the options. Same goes for hunting if he then prepares the animals himself.
For the brother in law....what kind of eats? For foodies I'm a big fan of those of the month clubs such as this one. Since he also likes tv you could look at a hulu plus or netflix gift certificate.
Do either of them drink? If so you could find mini bottles of whatever they fancy as a nice gift.

Can you get BIL a gift certificate to a yarn store? I think it's hard buying for guys just because if we are buying for women, we can get stuff that we like. My DD is so easy to buy for since we have the same taste. My 17 yr old DS told me a book he wants, but he really does want GCs. Last year he probably got $100 worth of GCs to Starbucks and he was thrilled. But for my exH, yes he liked sports, but there's only so much sports equipment that he would need, and not like I could really pick out a baseball glove or something like that--and only so many Red Sox shirts that one person would want.
I'll tell you what's hard too--buying gifts for my 86 yr old mother & 82 yr old aunt who live together. They don't want more stuff for the house, they don't really need more clothes. They do like going out to eat so it's usually restaurant GCs.
