Sludge? Interesting. I think that I have some of that in my brain lately - would explain a lot. I have not heard of that test - are you sure that you are spelling it right? A PIPA is a type of scanner (Photon-Induced Positron Annihilation) but I am not aware of it being used for medical purposes. I think that it has mostly industrial applications. But I imagine that you are correct in thinking that you will undergo some kind of imaging scan - with or without a contrast. For gall bladder scanning, I think it usually is a nuclear scan with a radioactive contrast (or tracer).
Well, keep us posted. I hope the meds help. I used to have pretty bad acid reflux which caused me to sleep sitting up but the little purple pill really helped.
I know what you mean about the low-fat. I have been on Weight Watchers for 21 weeks now. I can give you some really good low fat suggestions.
Cheese - this stuff is THE BEST if you can find it. Laughing Cow. http://www.laughingcow.com/lc/lc.nsf/ProductsL2-MiniBabyBel?openpage If you play around on their site a little, you can find all of their low fat options as well as the local stores that carry their products.
Ice Cream - Skinny Cow brand sandwiches and fudge bars.
Bread - Healthy Life bread has a good amount of fiber and almost no fat.
I also eat Lean Cuisines and Lean Pockets and the like. Breaded and baked chicken breasts are low fat and tasty.
I'm glad to hear there's progress, even if it's slow. That term "sludge" reminds me of a friend of mine that had Celiac's disease. It is an allergy to gluten (which is in just about everything), it causes the body to not absorb things like vitamins and minerals and it can show itself in a lot of forms like skin breakouts, abdominal/digestive pain and the "Big D". Did your Dr. mention this at all?
Ground turkey can be very high fat - most varieties have skin in them. So, make sure you're buying "ground turkey breast" or "ground skinless turkey."
For other low-fat foods, whole grains are a really good option and offer good nutrition as well. Things like quinoa, brown rice, etc. are very easy to make and tasty, too. Also, go for whole-grain boxed cereals (the Kashi brand is really good).
Also, the people at natural foods stores (Whole Foods, Vitamin Cottage, Wild Oats) can be VERY helpful with special diets. I have a friend with an unusual digestive disorder where she can't digest gluten - and these stores have saved her in terms of what to buy and what to make.
I have another friend going through the same kind of gall-bladder problem you've described. I'll ask her for some advice on food options for you. (Also - her problem was really bad and then sort of disappeared -- like it was a bad virus or something. Hope that turns out to be the case for you as well).

Take care.
I spelled it like she spelled it on the sheet she gave me, but she could be spelling it wrong.

I could go on. And on...
Cheese and milk are actually triggers for my problems, so avoiding them doesn't bother me so much. It's actual REAL food- meats and sides and stuff.

Good luck with the scan!
AJ, enjoying life with C.
What's the "big D?"
I buy the 98% fat free turkey.
I know what it is now!
The name is a pipida scan.
