Find a Conversation

(Sorry if you've seen this already on the poetry board)
At bars I'd like to drink in peace,
without some boozehound begging "Please!"
"Let the next round be on me!"
I go to socialize with friends.
Not random, drunken, one-night stands.
"Hey baby," they jeer, and leer as I walk past.
I raise my chin, don't make eye contact.
"Hey now, sweetie."
"Come on, honey, don't be like that."
Cocksure cads.
Slender, curvy, pretty, plain...
as long as you're female, it's all the same.
Just two X chromosomes
and (at least) the age of eighteen:
that's all they need, and your name
is of little consequence.
Sometimes I try to be a bitch.
Turn them off with sarcasm and a biting wit.
But to my utter dismay, the bastards enjoy it!
"Sassy," they call me, and simply insist
they like that in a woman.
So woe are we, the fairer sex,
who cannot get a moment's rest,
for everywhere there are these pests!
These overly-confident Casanova wannabes
who think they are charming, but in reality
they are just obnoxious.
