I just want to know if anyone else can relate to this.

A co-worker of mine has been anticipating getting engaged for the past 6 months. In fact, she's been so sure her beau would pop the question over Xmas that she already began making calls for bands and halls for the wedding. Well, she just got back from her holiday break and guess what...he proposed. So everyone in the office is crowding around her all excited and fawning over her new ring and I honestly, just can't even bare it.

My problem is I feel I have sour grapes. Not too long ago I was with my ex-boyfriend, the love of my life for 8 years and we picked out rings and intended to get engaged in 2003. When it didn't happen by the end of the year, I began to get skeptical. Turned out, he'd been cheating and fell in love with the other girl. As a result, I still feel very sensitive to others getting engaged. It's the whole, why did she get what she wants and I get dumped (even though I technically did the breaking up).

I feel bad cause I should be happy for her, but instead it makes me angry and sad. Engagements, baby showers and bridal showers all make me feel terrible and remind me of what I've been so far denied. I'm avoiding all of them for the time being. But I feel so selfish.

Can anyone relate?

That sounds like fun.

A few of my friends and I have joked that we should put on the ugliest ones and go out "clubbing" or something.

Hmmmm, maybe next hear I'll have someone who sews help me combine all the dresses into one hideous dress and go to Halloween parties as "Always a Bridesmaid." hehe :)

There is one of those chick-lit books called "Always a Bridesmaid" that I read and then passed around to all of my friends. I don't read many of those but I like to have them for the summer days I spend alongside the pool.

Of course there is. And let me guess, there's either a purse, high heels, a martini glass or a cell phone on the cover?

Hehe, those books crack me up usually and are prefect for a quick summer read.

Hehehe - actually, it does have heels and purses but no martinis or cell phone. A bunch of bridesmaid dresses and a cat. Now that I think about it, that's really depressing. Is that what my life is? A bunch of ugly dresses with hideously matching shoes and a cat? I hope not!

Actually, if it were my life, there would be a bottle of bourbon and some cigarettes on the cover too. :-)

I looked it up on Amazon and found this great book called "Always A Bridesmaid : 89 Ways to Recycle That Bridesmaid Dress." Now THAT is information I could use.

If it were my life, there'd be a dog, running shoes and a mini bar (sorry, too many good drinks to narrow it down to just one type of alcohol). :-)

I am seriously thinking about that book, too!

That's a good idea! We're going to have to remember that one next Halloween!
