I'm kind of conflicted.

There's this guy I've been emailing with from match.

I'd find a way to tell him you're not interested, especially given the chance that he could find out who you are. Besides, you don't want him holding out hope that you two could get together some day. You've clearly already made a decision about him, so I think you should find a way to break it to him gently that you're not interested.

I would tell him. You can say something benign, thanking him for the email

Or maybe another way to handle it would be just tell him you met someone on the site and wanted to see how things were going to go with him.

Although I hate it when guys give me that reason, I might do it.

Wait - you haven't met in person or even spoken on the phone?

Why don't you do a 15 minute coffee meet before completely rejecting him?

Some people just aren't very good in email, but have fabulous personalities in real life.

Even after he's sent me

It seems to me, based on what you've described, that your instinct to cut off contact is the right one.

I forgot another small detail...in his last email, he said he just wanted to "date around."

Ugh, the annoying online guys....if he's not taking the hint by now that you're not interested, I would just be honest and tell him that you don't think you would be a very good match. On the other hand, who knows, maybe he is just bad over e-mail and could be a great conversationalist in person?

I know I don't need to tell you this, but I will anyway....do not let the lack of other prospects be a determining factor in this decision. Go with your gut.
