Tell me if I'm being unreasonable

Last week, the office sent out invitations to a volunteer luncheon. On the invitation was my name, yet it was written as "Mrs. Shy". I did mention it, but didn't make a stink about it. Usually, if someone writes or says Mrs. for me, I just tease and say "ah..so you're marrying me off, huh?" When it goes home on something official, it bugs me!

So this morning, we got a school directory for the kids. On the title page, all the teachers' names are listed. I'm a Ms. in this book, but they misspelled my first name! It's not like I'm new here or anything. It really irritates me. Again, this is something that is going home with the kids.

Am I being unreasonable to expect that my title is correct and that my name is spelled correctly?

Thanks ladies. Sometimes I wonder if I'm just being too sensitive. The thing is, most people either spell my first name wrong and the last one right, or the last one wrong and the first one right. Why can't they just get them BOTH right??? I mean, geeez! Spell it like it sounds for goodness sakes!

I really do want to mention that it bothers me, but there's nothing that can be done now. The notes have been sent home and I wasn't about to ask 200 phone directories be recopied for me. Deena, you are exactly right- I emphasize with my kids the difference between Miss and Mrs. and Ms. in books, yet they hear and see other adults make that mistake all the time. To me, it's just another reminder that I'm "supposed" to be married by now!

NO, you are not being unreasonable. I have a letter in the middle of my last name that should be capitalized for proper spelling...and I insist on it!

I do not think so - at all. When I got promoted earlier this year I had them change the way they referred to my new title on the web site twice so that it would be consistent with the others with the same title - the first time they screwed it up again so I had to say something again - but I did. Also when it comes to teaching the parents need to know how to spell and pronounce your name and it looks bad for the school to have misspellings because proper spelling is supposed to be reinforced for the children. What I would do - and what I know you will do - is raise the issue as diplomatically as possible.
