Thrust into decisions...

I have been informed today that I have to have a few forms filled out, my curriculum vita and my strengths and weaknesses turned in by Monday in order to be eligible for practicum placement next fall.

Wait a minute...didn't I just start grad school? I'm not even done with the first semester and you already want me to look at training placements for next fall??? Cant this wait until after the holidays, when I get my grades, when I feel complete in my first semester learning and maybe a greater view of what I want to do with my life???

So yeah...I have to decide where I want to get training or start narrowing down my talents and qualifications for the most appropriate placement. I feel like I have to get "specialized" right now and make decisions RIGHT NOW about what I want to do with the rest of my life.

Bugger...so I took myself out to lunch to the Hard Rock Cafe...had me a Rock Lobster drink (and ooo it was good too) and a good 30 dollar lunch...at least I'm handling this well...hahaaaa!

Any encouragement or knocking me upside the head and calming me down would be most helpful. Or tell me to extract my head from my rear and get with it already!

Ruby,

I forget whether or not you have told us what graduate program you are in. If it is a two or three year Master's program, then you really don't have much time to get these things settled even though it may seem a bit much. Even if you are in a PhD program, your coursework should only take you a few years and you will need to start thinking about fellowships and research grants. All of these things are why I decided not to pursue my PhD.

But having your curriculum vitae done is a great idea. If you need it for a job, it's there. If a fellowship comes up that you want to do, you won't have to scramble to get it done at the last minute. And you can always add new info to the CV at any time.

I hope it goes well for you.
