Rubyshoes

I honestly couldn't tell you why I chose to teach.
My career is sort of choosing me right now. I like it, I like the people I get to work with and it more than pays the bills but I doubt many little girls sit in their room and dream of being a consultant.
My favorite part of my work is when I get to write (which is what I hope to do full-time one day).
My least favorite part is meetings (they just create more meetings).
My career was a fluke. It was supposed to be a job I did for a couple of years until I went back to grad school. I did not expect to love the work or to be so good at it - so there you have it.
My favorite part of my job is doing the research and coming up with new policy and procedure - feeling like I can make a difference in how the government does business.
My least favorite part is the travel. I just found out that I will be in 6 cities in 6 months - one week per month starting in February. Even worse, they told me at a conference in front of all of the directors from around the country which offered me no chance to object. I guess that's why I get paid that huge government salary. :)
On the bright side - maybe I will get to meet eoms of you. I will be in Kansas City in July. Also Jacksonville, Dallas, Seattle, Cleveland, and New York. So - if anyone wants to grab a drink next year, let me know. hehe
Why did you choose your career?
-I've always loved words and language, so writing has just been second nature to me. That's why i chose journalism- however i work in newspaper production now, which I chose because i loved the creative side to it. I miss writing, but am enjoying my choice thus far. We'll see what the future has in store!
What is your favorite thing/activity/role in your career?
Laying out the newspaper on Monday mornings. And that ties with finishing designing an ad and having someone say they love it and it's perfect.
What is your least favorite thing/activity/role in your career?
Struggling on a busy day to get all the ads created- i hate having time restraints on my creativity.
1) I'm a clinical study coordinator for a liver specialist at a university hospital. So I with a co-worker we carry out his research on liver cancer. I chose it because while medical school wasn't for me, I really wanted to be in a health related field and be able to contribute somehow. It keeps me challenged and lets me grow intellectually, and that is something that is very important to me.
2) My favorite part of the job is talking to patients. A lot of them are really happy to participate and have interesting stories to tell.
3) My least favorite part is all of the regulatory paperwork, especially for the drug trial. I'm constantly submitting updates to our institutional review board (or ethics committee), and the applications take forever to prepare.
