When talking about what you want in a man, some people seem to think women are "too picky". What exactly do they mean?

I have certain qualities I look for, as well as a few deal breakers. But sometimes I wonder if I am too picky.

Dealbreakers:

You want children (I dont)
You have a history of cheating/lying/controlling/abuse/criminal activity
You do drugs or smoke

Qualities I look for:

Self-sufficient ( you dont live with mom and dad)
Have a life outside of work
I find you attractive
Generally a "good" or "nice" person
We have at least something in common
You know what you want or at least have a few goals

What do you girls (and guys) think?

I think that the only time a person can be too picky is when they ask for things that they don't need in order to be happy.

I also think the "you're too picky" line is a way to make people feel bad about having standards. There is nothing too picky about wanting someone that is self sufficient or emotionally mature or has some of the same interests as you. Many people just say this because they feel being in a relationship is better than being single. However, that isn't necessarily true.

I think your criteria are totally reasonable (and match up with my own criteria, so of course I agree with you!). You have no specific items on the list that would make you be considered too picky.

The problem is that there aren't a whole lot of men who fit into the mold of a "good" guy who still have a set.

Interesting comment.

The list also seems reasonable to me. Excluding Felons however . . very demanding. ((-:
