A few years ago, I went on one of those barefoot cruises on the coast of Maine. I just had to get out of town so I went on the internet to see what I could find. THere was a company that had a restored antique scooner and did 3 day, 4 day and week long cruises. The ship was beautiful, it only fit about 15 people so you could get to know people if you wanted. The crew was easy to look at
I like to go for weekend getaways alone. I've been to Seattle, WA and loved it. I did tons of sightseeing research before I left. Once checked into the hotel, I ventured off. I could browse in the museums as long as I wanted and practically everything I did was wonderful. I could take as long as I wanted. Stop & go, buy things and rest...
I found eating alone a little uncomfortable but I didn't want to miss the fabulous restaurants, so I cozied up to the bar to eat. That way people did speak to me and the bartender took really good care of me. I even ventured to a movie before I tucked myself into bed...very relaxing and fun!
Flying too and from was was normal for me because I fly alone to visit friends often.
A fun city is the way to go!
I would like to know more about your New York experience. I was to go there with a friend this past May, but she backed out. I started to go alone, but was fearful of being in such a big city without knowing anyone. So like where did you stay and did you do any of the tours once there? I would appreciate it if you could tell me more details about your solo trip to New York.
Thanks:)

Hi. I've traveled alone for work, but not vacation. However, I am planning on taking a trip to Ireland myself this spring/summer. It's just something I've always wanted to do. My work schedule has always been crazy and never really allowed a lot of substantial time that matched up with anyone who would go with me. So, this summer I'm taking the time and going. I recently left my job to pursue graduate school, so I'll have the time this summer and am not letting it pass me by. So, I would suggest going for it! I've had friends who have traveled alone and all recommend it as well. I also know someone who is a teacher and every time he gets a break he takes off for some destination. Sometimes he goes abroad, sometimes it's within the US. Often he goes as part of some sort of community service type of trip, so if you are interested in that type of activity that's another way to go alone but still have people with a common interest to meet.
As for traveling to NY, it's a great place to visit alone! I used to live near there and would take little trips or pitstops myself to check it out. There's so much to see...I still have a long list left, so going alone lets you see what you want and not have to worry about another's schedule. There are a lot of places to stay, I would just suggest trying to get some reviews on where you stay because you just never know. I usually try to stay around the theater district or between there and up to Central Park (a nice, central location). You may also want to get a place near a subway stop so that if you go anywhere (or come home late) you don't have far to walk.
I found a great deal on travelzoo
Solo travels: All over the US, Belize/Guatemala, many parts of Mexico, Paris, London, Barcelona, India (Goa, Bangalore), St. Thomas, Niagara Falls.
Travels with a signif other, family,
I just want to give you kudos for wanting to explore traveling on your own and not waiting for "Mr. Right". I have not traveled personally by myself but I have traveled extensively for work alone. I have been to Texas and other states for three to four week periods several times and let me tell you, I did not stay in my room. I was on the go exploring whatever was going on the city.
I am planning trip to Europe next year and it will be solo. There are many resources on the internet as far as tour groups. I would also contact a travel agent, he or she will probably have more resources.
Good Luck!!!

I've really enjoyed my solo trips but they are nothing compared to others that have posted.
