Like you, I have been divorced for many years. I was not afraid of losing my autonomy, but I was in no hurry to become a stepmother either. I really haven't accepted that I will be single the rest of my life, even though I acknowledge that it is a distinct possibility.
This may not help, but there are a ton of people without a significant other, too. I think when you're not in a relationship, it seems you notice people in relationships more.
And remember, not everyone in a significant relationship is happy with that person. My unscientific theory is that 25% of married people are really happy, 25% are reasonably happy, 25% are fairly dissatisfied, and 25% are miserable.
