Hello everyone;

We are still displaced and staying with son and gfriend because our area still has no power but I am so greatful right now for this..

Where I live might not get any power or water or anything for a few more weeks and its a total mess.. I dont care about me but its challenging with my mom right now. No nurse, and no help and no respite..we are hanging in but its tou gh being in a strange place..

I did manage to get gas yesterday and drive to Walmart and pick up a few things so feeling a bit normal. I still havent been able to do normal things yet like walk or read or read the boards but am feeling a bit better.

thanks for caring everyone.... send lots of prayers for the people who still have no power and with small kids and no heat.. I dont know how people are coping but there is help that arrived and still coming.. The new storm knocked out more power lines and that wasnt good.  I would bet most people are getting generators because its cold and who can go without heat and water for weeks. Its all nuts..oh; and the water s upply is contaminated.. I might be looking for a room soon in a whole different neighborhood but what do I do with my mom??

Supposed to be warm this weekend so that will be a good break.

take care everyone

I know CFK.. we take the little things for granted as I have missed Halloween so far , the election and now Thanksgiving is coming up and Christmas. I hope I dont miss those ho lidays as they are my favorite..

you know I have my own traditions around these times and they seem to have gone on without me.. Its like I dont even know what day it is although I did manage to escape today for two hours. I went down to a shopping center and walked around a bit. Then I went down to the town area and checked out the small beach.. uh I dont want to see water for awhile now (lol).. then I walked around and wound up at the local library and went in and read some magazines.. So today I felt somewhat normal ( ha ha) I will never be normal..

take care

I thought of you on Wednesday when the snow came through. What a mess, indeed. You guys can't seem to catch a break. I have to say, it does warm my heart to see all those who are out there trying to make a difference. There are definitely still some good people in this world. I hope you guys can get settled back in before the Holidays, at the very least! I know you will, but keep hangin' in there!

thanks girls..

Yes; I have to find out about my moms situation.. My sis has all of her stuff and she is her power of attorney but sis seems to only pick and choose what she answers when I contact her.. I could call mom's agency and see what they can do..

Yes; the Red Cross and all are here doing what they can but yes they have thousands of people ahead of us.. but I am going to fill out a disaster relief application. Heck; we are spending money I dont have right now.. Not saying its their fault but if its there I will apply..

oh; mom needs someone with her and I have no idea where to start with elderly  housing as like I said sis has taken care of her stuff for a long time now.. I would have to speak with her social worker and that will get me nowhere because I am sure sis will try and intervene.

thanks for the suggestions and will look into it though..

the gas problems seem to be getting better now.. NY now has the odd and even days so that is much better..

Can your mom qualify for elderly housing?  Would she be able to take care of herself there or does she need someone with her?  I suppose the displaced people would go to the top of the list.  I would call the town hall where you were living and ask for someone who works in elderly service although I suppose they are swamped with help requests right now.

I was surprised to hear that they were still having gas problems.  I thought the original problem was that gas stations didn't have gas so they couldn't pump--is that still the issue?

I do hope you get things straightened out soon.

Glad to hear from you free.  I'm not sure what help has been dispatched over there or how they're prioritizing things, but if your mom is in need of medical care there must be a resource available for that.  Are the local hospitals or clinics able to help you or provide referrals for your moms immediate needs?  Is the red cross already out there?  If so perhaps they can help you as well.  I know it has to be exhausting and frustrating, but there must be resources available to help your mom.  Thank heavens for your son and his girlfriend.
