Absolutely. But it's not just "no" that has an impact.

I think as I get older it's easier to deal with "no." Rather than being disappointed and allowing the disappointment to determine my mood I'm better at turning the disappointment into motivation for an alternative plan. I think I was probably told "no" a fair amount as a child but as I got older, I was told more and more to work for things, so maybe that's where the instinct to find a way to turn a no into yes comes from.
Of course, this only works on things in which I have some control. Not every situation applies.
