What get's you excited?

I absolutely LOVE to cook.  I was watching something the other day, and someone was grilling pizza outside on a grill.  I had always heard that the best pizza's were cooked in a brick oven, with wood coals.  Well, I tried it tonight.  Made the dough from scratch, and the sauce.  I bought some fresh mozzarella, basil, and pepperoni.  The dough was super easy.  Used Fleischman's pizza dough yeast with a recipe I found online.  That took all of about 15 minutes.  The sauce was supposed to have set for half an hour, but I hadn't read the recipe ahead, ha-ha.  It sat for about half that amount.  Grilled one side of the dough, flipped it (used corn meal on one side to prevent sticking, plus oiled up grate well) then topped it with the ingredients and voila!

I'll be honest, it was not the best pizza I've ever had, but it was hella fun!!   I didn't have any wood though, I just used regular coals -- perhaps that would have made a difference.  I should have put the basil on last.  It bittered a little.  Plus, instead of olive oil on the grates, I used PAM.  I think it burned a little before I got the dough on . . .

Am I a total nerd for being so excited about grilling a pizza?  Do you guys have any nerdy tendencies/hobbies you'd like to share?  (I literally have texted several friends along with a picture of my masterpiece.  Such a dork!)

When I read your headline I of course thought of something of a sexual nature.  lol

I do like it when I make something and it comes out looking good--for me that's not usually cooking, it's something crafty.

I've made pizza on my charcoal grill before. It was hella good! I made BBQ chicken pizza, though. That might have made the difference.

As for what gets me excited, that's easy. Karaoke. And men who can sing. And when people clap and cheer for me after I sing karaoke. Notice a theme? Oh, and my baby niece. And going out without my annoying friend who is currently trying to grasp my attention. I know...I'm being rude! She just won't stop talking about nothing!!!

CFK.. I so wish I was with you and eating your home made pizza... I wish we lived in a world where we could wear jet packs like the Jetsons and just whisk around anywhere we wanted. Now that would make me excited..

Anyway;; I think just having another day to wake up and do whatever I want gets me excited whether its walking or just talking with my neighbor or going out with friends or going to a concert.. Just being in the moment and enjoying every second no m atter what as time for me seems to get shorter and shorter.

You know I got excited last week when i went to the health food store and bought this awesome healthy pizza they make by the slice. I think its made with tapioca pudding and rice crust or something and it is delicious.. I am so addicted to it and its healthy too.. and I just found out about it last week.. I wish I would have known about it earlier.. (lol) When i find new foods at the health food store it gets me excited because I know that it will taste good and I wont be having the same old boring food and it wont hurt me.. New foods get me excited along with new restaurants I try out..

Well? I could go on and on but you get my drift..

I´m with you, Shy! I love to sing. I have been part of a mixed choir filled with lovely and fun people for many years now, and it gives me such joy singing with them. I sing a lot at home. Wish I dared karaoke, have a fear of microphones. But, I loved SingStar when I tried it last summer. And men who can sing....mmmm. Nothing like it!

Other than that, good concerts get me excited. And a good book! People who talk about interesting and fun things.

I'm a total foodie myself. Love to cook, love going to good restaurants (not necessarily expensive). Recently, a friend brought back tumeric and curry powder from Isreal (who knew these spices were used in Isreali cooking?) and it was simply thrilling to cook with them! When I travel, I love to check out the food and restaurants--food is so intertwined in a culture. I also have a food processor, and I love it when I get to use it! And tonight, I'm making Hungarian Goulash in my crock pot. Total nerd.

If you're interested in making pizza on the grill, might I suggest Bobby Flay's book "Boy Gets Grill"? I've never made one of the pizzas from his book, but everything else I've made was killer, plus he gives really good instructions. (BTW, I went to one of his restaurants when in NYC back in 2009!)

I love anything that I can do with my hands! LOL! This morning is my nieces 16th B-day. I found some zebra print duct tape and bordered it around some white poster board with a happy sweet 16 message, balloons, and ribbon. I put it in her yard at 6 this morning. I love stuff like that . . .

Shy, who knew!? That's awesome. I was freaking out about actually putting dough over an open fire. I just knew it was going to flop. It was an adrenaline rush. I've sang Karaoke once, and it will never happen again . . .

Free, I wish I could jet around, too! Being that I am in the deep south, and we fry everything, we're just now catching onto the health-kick-type-products out there. Who knew you could make a pizza with tapioca. That's insane!

Lady, I posted back in the summer about treating oneself . . . I'd had a little make-shift spa day. It's the little things!

Florida, love visiting ethnic eateries and grocery stores. It's funny you mentioned Bobby Flay. I posted a meatball recipe from his show, "Throwdown" on another board a while back. Love him! Going to have to Google "Hungarian Goulash" now, LOL.

Hey Shywon--we have been having weekly themes for my dance school's Friday night practice dances & this week is karaoke.  I volunteered to sing--hopefully I won't make a fool out of myself since I haven't done karaoke in about 10 yrs.  I know I can sing but you know how it is if you aren't familiar w/ the song or the backing tracks.  I have been practicing to You Tube karaoke videos.

White-satin, I agree.  It's like the thrill of the big game hunter bagging a prize.
