When did this become cute?

Has anyone else noticed the ever-increasing supply of clothing and accessories that say things on them like "Spoiled", "Brat," and "Princess"? Or sayings like, "Too hot to handle" or "Don't hate me because I'm beautiful...hate me because your boyfriend does." They're in juniors departments everywhere. I just think it's giving young girls the idea that there's nothing wrong with being a spoiled brat, having a sense of entitlement, and having unrealistic expectations.

Yeah, I was looking for a bathing suit and I kept finding those. I don't want ANYTHING written across my a**, thanks though.
Anyway, I think it's like anything else, though. Like the song lyrics that I look back on now that I was singing in junior high and go, WHOA, that's what that meant?? :) Just because kids sing it or wear it doesn't mean they get the full meaning of it. Not with spoiled or brat, of course, haha. :)
I have a shirt that says Rock Star and Cranky (don't even mess with me today) of course the cranky one is relatively true but I am not a rock star. LOL
But then again the parents are buying it for them right???
Smile,
Deirdre
I think it's sad that it's become acceptable to the point of advertising those undesireable traits.
Oh, yeah, I know that stuff's not meant to be taken literally. But the "brat" and "spoiled" stuff just bugs me in this "Paris Hilton Era." Don't get me wrong - some of the stuff I'm talking about is really pretty and sparkly...but I guess I just don't like it, even if it's not being taken literally by the kids wearing them. I'm becoming my mom!!!! Aaaahh!!!!
elwood...yes, I'd forgotten those things have been around so long - and I'm with ya on the 13-year-olds wearing them! I see girls who are so young trying so hard to look grown-up, and while I can't blame them for wanting to dress like their older sisters and friends, it just saddens me to think there are sickos out there who are looking at them in a light they shouldn't be looking at them through (though that's not the girls' faults - it's the sickos' faults).
And I had to giggle about the reference to stuff that went over our heads when we were younger. I remember this one episode of Alf where Alf was hiding under Kate and Willie's bed, so to get him out, they started bouncing the bed, hoping he'd get annoyed and leave. Alf just yelled, "Go for it, Willie! YES!" I asked my mom, "What does he mean? I don't get it!" My mother said sharply, "I don't know." End of discussion. LOL

I agree half these girls don’t have a clue, but the men leering at them do . . . down here they call the prostitarts. . . .my daughter never got into those, I’m glad. She did however get a tattoo at 16 and I singed for it . . long story. . . .lol.
Truth is I kind of agree with OP, celebrates some of the worst traits a person can have.
I agree - we don't need to encourage the self-centeredness and spoiled bratness that is already running rampant.
I've seen those in children's departments, too. We're talking clothes for 6-year-olds here. Disgusting.
AJ, enjoying life with C.
It wouldn't matter whats available out there as long as parents exercised authority over their kids.
It does not take a "village", it takes two parents who ENFORCE discipline to raise kids

LOL That's a funny one...it's some of the songs we all sang that just shock me now. But we genuinely didn't know what we were singing and no harm was done in the end. My roommate and I were watching Hocus Pocus tonight (yeah, we're dorks) and the witches said something about wanting children, to which the bus driver responded, "Well, it make take me a couple tries, but I think I could do it." This is Disney here!! :)
