So I've been thinking... what I'm doing is very honorable and good. I get up everyday and roll my butt into this cubicle and I do my job to the best of my ability (as long as I get my online time that is). And I get paid a decent salary to afford shelter, food and ample entertainment. That is what alot of Americans desire, yeah?
But I don't feel like I'm LIVING! And I know some around here don't have the urges I have or have different urges but I seriously can't stand the thought of still being right here 10, 5 or maybe even 1 year from now! It's like I need to get out and experience some different things! And I'm at the brink of considering doing that!
My thing is what I'm qualified for, what I'm good at and will get paid the most for - is exactly what I'm doing! Office work! Administrative type stuff. But I don't want to do it anymore! I want to do something a bit more interesting - and I know you will want to shoot me - I have NO CLUE what "interesting" is!
So... I'm recruiting your help! Give me some ideas. Do YOU work an interesting job? Do you know someone that has an interesting/unique type job? If you could do anything in the world what would you do? And hanging at home watching CBS soaps doesn't qualify... I wish it did! :p
Anywhere in the world, anything you can think of, great pay - not so great pay, whatever! Post some ideas - it will start the ball rolling! :) Thanks!

YES! See I know stuff like that is out there but would never know of it without NETWORKING!!!! (thank goodness for the internet! :) )
Did your friend graduate with a degree in travel and tourism? Obviously it helped that she was bilingual so I'm sure that helped get her in the door.
But they have an office in MN so surely the people there aren't all bilingual and trilingual!?
Something like that might be worth me exploring - if anyone knows of anything else like that please share!
CFK - you mentioned something in the entertainment industry and there was a period of my life I was VERY interested in that - even researched how to be a PA or just a set runner... but as I aged... the thought of moving to LA became less and less appealing to me. I still would enjoy something in the entertainment industry I just have NO CLUE what or how anyone gets into that industry! :) I once thought I was going to move to Nashville too - so... I'm all over the board! :)
Nope! She dual majored in Italian and Spanish, but she kept telling me to apply and that I'd have a great shot at it and I BARELY speak Italian and a little French. From the website, it seems like a lot of people aren't bilingual, it just helped her case.
Check it out! :)
I read some advice somewhere that you should pay attention to what you love to do in your free time. Anything you are willing to devote free time to is likely a passion, and you will excel at a career related to it. I think the article was about starting your own business, but I think it could apply to finding a job with an existing organization as well. The point being that you don't have to confine yourself to your degree/major area or current job experience. A lot of on-the-job experience can translate to other areas (management, organization, communication skills, sales experience, etc.)
For me, what I love would be something with food. I love food, have a passion for nutrition, etc. I even went back to grad school for nutrition, but didn't finish because I couldn't afford it anymore. Still, part of me wants to mix what I do now (writing/editing/PR) with food. I think that would be the perfect job for me.
AJ, enjoying life with C.
My field is with criminals...I have worked mostly with delinquent teenager, gangbangers and drug users. I want to work with criminal adults eventually. Veterans and meth addicts are passions of mine.
Not to tread into lightly, but very rewarding.
It doesn't matter what we do. I think you have to sit down with yourself and discover what is in your heart, forget money, if you come from your heart, the money comes. So, start writing and tell me what you can come up with.
I am a nurse in psyc and addiction, I like personally helping people, I could also be good at cutting hair, make up consultant, interior design, chef, actress. I have left nursing for sales, baking cheese cakes for restaurants and private orders, had fun trying new things.
you may need to take some classes, see a consultant, go back to school. Go within and see what you come up with, then the plan comes. leila
I can't even tell you how much searching I did last night in regard to the travel idea... and oh my goodness... I don't know if the market is just really crummy and travel agencies are either inhouse agencies for corporations or individuals trying to make it on their own or if people are just doing it themselves these days!? Or MAYBE what I'm looking for doesn't exist! :(
What Caitlyn posted is pretty close to what I'm thinking of... but I searched their website for employment listings and nope... so I emailed them and will hopefully receive a reply today!? But overall, I think that will be a hard company to get in with!
And so that is why I'm back here today - in my cube, eating my granola bar and drinking my coffee like I've done EVERY morning for the past 3.5 years! Love my life! :p
I'm being dramatic on purpose! ;p
It sounds like YOU really know yourself! You know what you like, you have hobbies that could be careers and have dabbled enough to know! I'm impressed and alittle jealous. I feel so one-dimensional next to you! I guess I do need to figure out what I like! :p
Hi Pamela - I'm a bit confused... aren't you the one who started the post "Tired of being single"? So I assume by that you are single?! And yet in this post you're talking about being able to work part time to be with your family and work around your family's schedule!?
Did I miss something - did you grow a family between posting the single post and this one!?
And what exactly is www.LoveYourHomeBiz.com - it seems rather vague and like a sales pitch.
Please clarify! Thanks!
