When I got home last night, there was a message from my doctor's office asking me to call them.

Yes, the last time I did a pap - they called me in to tell me I had some common infection...bac-something. It was absolutely nothing to worry about. It did kind of freak out a little b/c I have never had anything before - no yeast infections or anything. Plus, cervical cancer runs pretty rampant on my dad's side. Women get it as early as 25. So of course, I was thinking...its my time, I've been so lucky...and it turned out to be nothing.

Now you have me worrying...!!! When do you find out?

Sending you positive thoughts,

Go.

Yes! I had the exact same thing happen a few years ago! It turned out that my pap was possibly suspicious, so they did it again a few months later and it was completely normal and all my tests since then have been normal. The dr said that the abnormal test could have been lab error, or it could have been a yeast infection.

Shywon, this happens all the time! I know it's easier said than done, but try not to worry - it is probably nothing. I hope your dr calls back soon - it's awful waiting for the call. I truly hope everything is okay with you. :-)

Shywon, this is EXACTLY what happened to me. Exactly. I know it's hard waiting - but honestly, in all likelihood nothing is wrong, and even if there is an abnormality it is probably not advanced disease or anything. In my case, the dr said that what they thought was suspicious - her fear was not that it was some advanced form of cancer or anything, just that it *could* be a form of HPV (which is associated with later developmetn of cervical cancer). But in the end it turned out to be nothing.

Make your December appt with your dr NOW so that you don't have to wait any longer than necessary - and then try to put it out of your mind until then. I really think - and hope - everything will be fine.

Good question. I'm getting old - it hasn't been that long and already I've forgotten! I think, though, that after the abnormal pap they had me come back 2-3 months later, then 6 months after that and when the follow ups were all normal they put me back on the once a year plan.

One more thing - paps are by no means fun, but it shouldn't hurt. I would mention this to the nurse when you go back. They have plastic disposable speculums now that are a lot gentler than the cold metal ones - ask if they can use that instead.
