I'm not sure if I'd go as far as a spelling bee or singles night at the grocery store, but the cooking suggestion might be fun.

My problem is both- I rarely have the guts to speak to the men I see, but there aren't many where I am... and except for the spelling bees, I'm everywhere!

I saw this article today, too. The spelling bee made me laugh. I'd do singles night at Whole Foods, though. I'm there all the time anyway, and the problem is trying to determine which men are taken or not. Every time I try to mosey on up to one and maybe smile or even say hello, his SO appears out of nowhere like some "boyfriend infringement" alarm went off. LOL. Singles night would eliminate that problem.

Yes, I need some good conversation starters as well. In fact, I should start carrying note cards so I can come up with one in a pinch. :)

I have the same problem. When I see somebody, I know that I have to do something, but can never think of anything. Before I know it, she is gone .... In regard to conversation starter, somebody told me to start off small, like talking about weather, or Manhattan commute (if we're stuck on the train). I don't know, but those starters seem "too safe" because it is hard to connect them to the more personal questions you want to ask.
