Yet another vent...please bear with me

I have been meticulously planning this trip. I have a spreadsheet detailing costs, with tax, for all the tickets, the plane, and the hotel and car. I have figured, with taxes taken out, what my extra income from curriculum and volleyball camp would be.

Well, I got my paycheck today. It was $378 more than it has been. That is a whole $185 less than I was expecting. I called and talked to someone about it, and she said that the extras (totalling $620 before taxes) put me in a higher tax bracket. Basically, the $500 I was supposed to get for curriculum turned into around $300 and the $176 I was promised for camp was only $120 minus taxes. Insurance also went up by $12 a month.

At this point, the amount I have paid in taxes is almost twice my gross earnings for the year. This last check has over $1000 out of it, mostly in taxes and retirement (we don't pay social security b/c teachers here have their own retirement fund). I just feel like I'm working for nothing.

I can still afford the trip, I'll just have to dip into my actual savings more than I wanted to.

It's just really frustrating. Thanks for listening.

Since you started the venting, let me add my own. I'm so tired today that all I want to do is go home and relax, but I have to go to a focus group tonight from 7 to 9. I'd skip it if the amount it paid weren't just enough to cover that damn speeding ticket from yesterday.

I know those days very well. Just keep thinking about the money.

I realized after I posted that I must not be able to do math when I'm frustrated. I couldn't possibly be paying twice as much in taxes as my income. It's actually about a third of my income, which is still outrageous to me.

Toss a little PMS into the mix, and I can't seem to even drive without tearing up today. Hopefully a trip to the gym will help.

Hang in there!

I definitely understand the PMS thing. Last week I burst into tears when a friend criticized my cat. I know he thought I had just lost it!

I ended up having to listen to and rate over 500 songs tonight. We heard somewhere between 3 and 5 seconds of each and had to say how much we liked it and if we're sick of it. Apparently this data is used to determine what songs will be played on stations in the DC area and how often they'll be played. By the end of it, I think I was sick of all the songs and my hand hurt badly from all the fast recording of responses. I'm just glad to have it over with and have the money in hand.
