You take the good, you take the bad...

I have been feeling like there has been one bad thing after another piled on me lately. First the ticket, then the reduction in my paycheck, then I got a bill from my college because the loans didn't all come through in time. It's really hard to focus on the good when so much bad stuff happens.

Well, today I got a letter in the mail saying that my current student loans have been deferred while I'm back in school. I didn't ask for it, but they gave it to me! Heck, that makes me happy! Then, I got a check from my school because the loan DID come through, and since it was more than my summer classes, they just send me a check. I have to pay it back, but I'm SOOO glad I don't have to send them money now. I also got notified that I won a $100 tuition reimbursement from NEA. I get that in September. I also realized just this week that I've lost 20 pounds since last summer. I didn't even realize it because I've been focusing on my initial weight when I joined the gym. I gained ten pounds after I joined (fairly quickly, too). But, right now, I'm 20 pounds lighter than I was last year. It's encouraging, because that means that NEXT summer, I could be 20 pounds lighter than I am now!

I've also gotten so excited about planning my Disney vacation, I've decided vacations should be an every summer thing. I can save, and I think next summer will be a cruise. I want to start planning that one now!

So, let me ask- What GOOD things have happened to you lately?

Well, my internet and cable came back after the thunderstorm last night & this morning. I cried on some e-friends shoulders...my cat stopped wailing when I threw her on the balcony...I realized my singing at the top of my lungs doesn't make the dogs on my floor bark anymore...

Need I go on?

Go.

Sorry, Go, but I'm cracking up at the singing thing. I'm picturing you singing along with some 80's song, while the neighbor's dogs howl along with you!

I started paying bills today and after I realized that once again, there are more bills than money (but I paid my rent and that's IMPORTANT), I found these things:

1. my cell phone bill is the same as it has been since I got it, even though it's had more use this month than it's ever seen;

2. my one credit card is more up-to-date with payments than I thought it was, which means that I can take R. out for his birthday like I had planned.

3. R. called me and suggested that we make plans for tomorrow night, since he will not have to work. I know we're just friends, but it's a guy calling me of his own accord, so my ego is flying a bit higher now.

Well, it's not so much a good thing that has happened to me, but a good thing I was able to do....I paid off the balance of my student loans yesterday, 3 1/2 years early.

That's awesome! I still have six years (now probably more) left on mine. But, I only have about 18 months left on my car, so I'm looking forward to not having that payment every month!

So what did you decide? Are you going to kiss the guy or what?? I'd rather you kiss him so you can tell us all the details.

Just do it for my entertainment, okay? ;-)

It's so nice to have at least one monthly payment go away! I no longer have a car payment as of a few months ago because I folded my car loan into the refinance of my house (so the remaining 3 years of the car payments will now take 30 years). It's just nice having that extra money each month because there are always other expenses that the money could be used for.

"So, let me ask- What GOOD things have happened to you lately?"

okay, i know this sounds silly, but i was pretty happy about pushing some heavy dumbbells comfortably on monday. i'm the strongest physically i've ever been. :-)

the past thursday and monday nights, i went alone to clubs as i often do, and i had some really great conversations with some strangers (which i would initiate). it was a nice affirmation that i'm not 100% without social skills. but why couldn't the conversations have been women??? i really need to go to places where the crowd isn't 80% male...

sadly, i have nothing else to report...

Thim--try going to a club in DC...you'll find that it's about 80% women here.

Those are good things! That's not sad! It's always good to see the positive instead of the negative. Heck, I probably wouldn't have talked to anyone, so you're doing better than I would have!
