Okay - I am trying to type this fast.

Fireman from match and I were emailing back and forth on Sunday. He liked my profile and wanted to know if I felt the same about his to contact him. I did like his profile because he is the same age, close by, athletic and seemed nice from what he writes. He is not a big computer guy or good at typing so I noticed that his profile and messages were rather short.

Rather than go through a lengthy interrogation process, something struck me (this is a first!) and I decided to just have fun and some humor. I had asked him if he caught a lot of fish and he says he ALWAYS catches fish. So I said back - does that include the ones in the bait bucket. He liked that quite well. So rather than try to keep thinking of things to email I gave him my cell number - if he calls that is great and if not that is great.

So last night he called. I was dishing up dinner so let it go to voice mail. Got the kiddo in bed and then called him back. We hit it off quite well on the phone - he has a great voice and is a lot more personable than his short typed email messages. Says he is an old fashioned guy and prefers speaking to someone on the phone or in person.

We kept checking off the lists so to speak with what we liked. I was laughing a lot. He was impressed that I am going camping. And he loves to ride a bike - that is big brownie points for him.

So he wants to meet for lunch. I get up early and pick out the outfit and iron it - picked casual shorts with a cute top and sandals. Alison had recommended for me to show off my legs when I IMed her with this news last night all hysterical. You would have thought it was the first date I have ever had.

He calls and we meet for lunch in an Ale House - which is fun and okay. I get there just before him and have to go to the bathroom. I walk past a table of hot guys who are all looking at me - I guess that is a good sign. When I come out they are waving at the guy at the door saying look how dressed up he is. Then they see me go to him and said wow!.

Turns out they are also firefighters who work wtih him and were out playing golf.

So we talk and talk and have a good lunch. Then it is time to go. He knew I had to drive carpool and got me out in plenty of time and I like that. He walked me to my car and made sure I put on my seat belt.

We had a big talk about OLD and what we were looking for and our experiences. He can't believe he would do something like that but we both agree it is not easy to meet someone and that does make it easy. I explained that I did it once before, took a break and now am just looking to see if there is a match. We discussed what we were looking for as far as a match. He said he wanted someone active and I laughed so loud - because he truly has overkill with that. I did make it clear that I am not looking for someone to do triathlons - just someone who is fit and can do fun things and the bike is a great thing because I like that.

He also learned that I am picky - but I think he is too. He works hard, takes good care of his house, likes all of his friends and has made his life enjoyable. I know he is divorced from his profile. He doesn't have any kids. He works "fireman hours" which is quite good because it will give us some time but I can still have my time to train. He knows I train and likes that.

So I am coming home with carpool and he says he got concert tickets to see Steely Dan and this is very last minute but do I want to go?

And I do want to go!! I have not had a night out like that in so long and I do love live music. I got the carpool people who live next door to agree to take Nicholas overnight. So I can go.

So there is the story. I have to hurry and go swim and then get ready and make sure DS is ready for homework and school tomorrow.

But would love to hear comments.

I am not going crazy but like that he is fit and kind and funny and friendly. He gave me a very respectable but warm hug at the end so that is good. He is cute. We do like a lot of the same music and some different stuff too. OH - and the big thing is that he likes to eat really healthy like me. He also likes the outdoors quite a bit. I want to go slow and be friends - we talked about that too - that you have to take this and act like you just met in person.

Okay - just got in from the second date.

We went to a great concert - in a new concert hall here. He took me to dinner first and we just got a quick bite to eat. He was waiting out in front of the restaurant and said that I looked very nice (let me tell you - it is MOST MADDENING to try to get ready for a date when you have a kid and dogs running around a house and you are in a tizzy with your hair and about to be late - I wanted DS to come inside and sit down and wait for the sitter - not keep going outside to talk to friends and the puppies decided to chew up a pair of shoes). But somehow I got myself put together with cute jeans and a pretty white camisole top. And somehow the hair looked okay, too.

I enjoyed the concert so much - I have not been to one in a long time. AFter it was over we went outside and listened to another band and watched the people. And then my coach turned into a pumpkin and I had to go because my friend was babysitting (ds called her to come over and she was happy to and to hear the story). And that is a good thing - it is not like I want to be up that late on a school night or staying too long. I want to leave him asking for more.

He walked me to my car and we were having good conversation. Then we hugged - he has the warmest sweetest hug. Then he got the nerve to kiss me and I think we both melted. OMG.

I made sure I thanked him and told him I really had a great evening and was so glad he asked me.

So now I am in the "I hope he calls again" mode. So, if he does, he does and if he doesn't he doesn't. But I think he will plus we had talked about things we do want to do together. He looked star struck when I drove off!

Your dates sound wonderful! He (can we get a nickname for him please?!?) sounds like a really nice gentleman, and things seem to be going at a great pace. I like that you had a hug on the first date, and a kiss on the second. All good.

Knowing how picky you are, it makes me really happy that you have found someone that you want to date. He seems to be ticking all the right boxes so far.

Did you talk at all about being a mom? How does he feel about that? Does he have some experience with children (friends, nephews, nieces, etc.)?

This is all great news. Looking forward to your updates.

Hi missclemmy - it is fun to log on this morning and get your note!

His nickname is Fireman.

And yes I did talk about being a mom. When we were first talking on the phone I was telling him about how my DS is such a good age now because we can travel on trips and I mentioned our upcoming camping trip and he liked hearing about that. And he knows I had to pull together a babysitter fast. I am lucky that I have a few options that are usually pretty reliable. The thing I liked is that he was very considerate about making sure I made it to carpool on time and that I couldn't stay out all night because I have a sitter.

All of his friends are married with kids and they take the kids fishing and he said it was fun watching the kid catch a lot of fish and really be happy about that - what fun for a kid! I think he likes them a lot - just doesn't want any of his own. He is 46 so that is understandable - and a relief for me because at 45 I am not wanting to go back to the diaper days again. DS is just enough for me!!

One funny thing last night - when Fireman went to the bathroom, I noticed one of the guys from match.com there - it was the one I just posted about with the 10 questions and the motorcycle. He had such a unique beard that you would know it was him in minute. That is kind of funny!

He definitely likes that I am fit because he stays fit. I must say when he said that at lunch I almost choked on my cracker - because I am like scary fit right now. My new coach has trained me like his other olympic and pro athletes and I am getting ready to do a race with a 56 mile bike ride and 13 mile run.

I made sure I explained that I am not looking for someone to do that with me. That is something to do while he is working or fishing with the boys.

I love the fact that he's not years older, but just a year older. Remember we just talked about all the gross guys that are years older? And he stays fit and active and he seems to do things that DS really might enjoy down the line. Alright, so when are you setting the stove on fire? LOL. I'd love to see a fireman in action. :)
Wow! I just don't know how you have the endurance for those triathalon's. I always admire how you just have it so together. I just don't seem to have that sort of discipline. But I truly envy it.
I know I already said this, but I am just so excited for you.
