I guess I don’t have a question just a weird Tucson moment to share. Even though the greaterTucson area has a population of about 1 mil., it is like a small town where everyone just seems to know everyone else. My long time friend, L, invited me to her new office open house. I’ve told her about M and I’ve mentioned her to M so it was a no brainer to take him with me. When we got there, we get to talking to one of L’s collegues and it turns out he and M both lived in Syracuse, NY. So this guy mentions that L’s friend, A, also lived in Oswego, a small town where M went to college. I know A, and when I introduce M, she and M realize they know one another not from their time in Oswego, but through a mutual friend. Then L realizes she also has met M before and his X. A is still friends w/ M’s X- who hates me on principle (she has never met me, surprisingly given this experience). We all had a good laugh, The only reason A remembered M was because of their ties to the town of Oswego, and that they had discussed this commonality before. Anyway, it was a typical Tucson moment. Well, I guess I can at least be sure that if M’s X is trashing me in front of A, A will tell her she’s off base.

Tucson is still beautiful, yet getting over developed for the infrastructure. And they keep building higher up into the mountains, pretty soon it'll look like So. Cal. But there still is the weird small world incidents. A friend has a story about when she was on her honeymoon last summer and went into a pub in England only to find that the 4some at the adjacent table were all U of A grads. I fully expected that M and I would find we have friends in common, but I thought it'd be swim team people, afterall we met at the pool. Instead it's my arty opera, ballet friends. So when did you live here? I've been here since 1993.

I lived there in the 80s - for 6 years. I really loved the area - hated to leave - but had an irresistable job offer on the east coast. My best memories are of the desert - the sunsets, the wild life, the cactus in bloom. I had a horse - loved the outdoors and explored many trails. Saw great horned owls, rattlesnakes, white tailed deer, jack rabbits, javelina, coyotes, tarantulas and more. Loved Mount Lemmon, hiking (especially 7 falls and Sabino Canyon), fishing for trout, camping in a tent, exploring other parts of AZ, NM, CO, UT. You really do have it all there.

It really IS a small world, as I'm from a town very near Syracuse!

And getting smaller by the minute. I am actually about an hour and half from Syracuse, and one of my son's best friends just started at college in Oswego. :-)

I can't remember the town M grew up in but I do know it was between Syracuse and Skaneateles. S18 was looking at RIT for college next year so I was out there this past summer.
