am I washed-up at 32?!?!

I had my first child when I was young and the father got scared and we didn't work out. Now, at 32, I also have 2 other children with my ex- husband. It is a mixed emotion because he suffers from depression (and won't get help) but has also been dishonest and verbally abusive for years. Anyway, am I destined to be alone forever? I can't imagine a guy being able to handle my baggage. I am a good person- a good mom, a part-time professional, educated, family-oriented..........I think the only thing wrong with me is my innate ablility to choose emotionally unavailable men! Any suggestions on what I should do now? I am fine alone, but wouldn't mind some companionship, even if it never got serious.

Amie,

I don't think you are ever "washed up". Your life will proceed from here as you make it. If you make it great all by itself, it will be great regardless of your past. Then when you get it so great you will meet someone better and you will be more picky.

Take this time now to make a clean slate- what do you want to do with your life and with your kids?

I am sure you have a lot of things going for you if you are supporting your kids and yourself. Focus on these things. Try something new. Develop goals for your own happiness and for your future.

Most important of all, I hope you stay and participate here and learn the ins and outs of dating and picking the right person. I have learned so much in the time I have been on this board.

I hope the others chime in too - you will likely get more responses when Monday rolls around.

HUGS!! WELCOME!!

You are not washed up unless you want to be.

Just a quick thank you for responding. It is nice to hear advice from people in similar situations; especially encouraging advice. Family and friends just don't always get it. Thanks again.I really needed to hear a few words of encouragement.........
