Any good hang out ideas?
| Tue, 02-15-2005 - 7:58pm |
I'm newly single. My ex of four years and I broke up three months ago. I'm tired of staying home moping and crying. I'm ready to get out and hang out and meet new guys. The problem is I don't know where to go. Where do go to meet people? Is it okay to go out alone? Most of my friends are in relationships or married. If I wait for them I'll never get out. Any ideas?

Welcome to our board!!
Moping and crying are not good! And you can't stay home forever. So you are certainly on the right track. Sorry to hear you had such a painful experience.
Do you have interests? I think one of the best ways to meet new people and make new friends is to develop an interest in something - exercise is always one of my favorites. It also helps to take time to talk to people you meet and try to expand your friends and social circle. Friends have friends and their friends have friends. Some people enjoy socializing at church, too.
I always keep my eyes open at Starbucks or the grocery store, too. :-)

If you live in an urban/suburban area, you can always find social clubs for every possible interest you might have. Good websites to check out are Meetup.com (have groups from quilting, to wine tasting, to everything) and craigslist.org.
Check out your local newspaper for groups as well. When I was recently in between boyfriends, I signed up to go to dinners with two area social groups (not dating groups). I made a new girlfriend. Within a short period of time, I started dating a man that knows some people I know. The social group thing did not lead me to my current boyfriend, but the experience boosted my confidence and probably made me more interesting when I did have my first date with my new boyfriend.
Fitness groups and anything athletic is a great way to meet men. They love to sign up for those things.
