I've started my transfer progress with my Company and am interested in possibly blowing Texas off and start totally new in North Carolina. Can anyone give me some info on this state. I am particulary interested in the Jacksonville/Wilmington area. I keep seeing fantastic photos and I've heard great stuff about this state. Any info would be great! Thanks. - Catherine

I am not from NC - but I spent two weeks in Durham, NC when my friend graduated from Duke. We did quite a bit of travelling around the state - and I remember thinking "I could live here." It's a really beautiful state, the pace of life is MUCH slower than Las Vegas (the speed limit on the highway is 55 - people go 55! Here - people go 80!), everyone there was really friendly. I did notice that racism there is "the norm" - and although it's "desegregated" - you couldn't tell by looking. I could handle living in the Raleigh/Durham area because of all of the universities there - - - and I LOVED the outer banks.

Thanks Min, the funniest thing happened to me today. I called my Aunt Dixie. I haven't ever spoken to her before and the last time I saw her was almost 20yrs ago. However, I told her I decided before I land in Texas I was going to see NC. She said immediatly, that she wanted me to stay with her and that my all my cousins wanted to see me. Then she asked if I was still married (my uncle and her divorced after 34 yrs of marriage and he died two years later), I said nope, I'm divorced. She said " yeah, life is sh$% sometimes but you get over it." After about 20 minutes she said, "Are you bringing the girls?" I said No, it's just me, then she said "Well you divorcee, if that's the case, I'm taking you dancing." I was sooooooo thrilled. I couldn't believe how wonderful this woman was, she was rattling down what companies I need to apply for, what companies are opening and how she is looking forward to seeing me. I took a look at where she's living; she's in Wilmington NC. I was soo thrilled because that was the exact spot that I've been pining over for years, but didn't know I had family their. Now I have an Aunt and two cousins and their children that are anxious to see me. I thought that was really cool and it opens a whole new point in my life.

Wish me luck! Five more weeks to go!
