Asking your age....

Why do people ask your age? I just had a coworker ask me how old i am.... he said he was curious because i have a youthful personality and a nice figure for my age. I didn't say... i sorta hesitated and said "old". then he said, "i know it's rude to ask a woman their age. but you don't act old"... then i went on to say, "ya my daughter says that to me all the time." He wasn't hitting on me because i know he's married but i'm curious as to why someone would ask.....

Even that 22 yr old.. the first or second question for me was "how old are you?"

So why do you think someone would ask for your age?

And if they do... would you tell them? would you be vague or just not say (like with the coworker). Is it their business, even... When i'm meeting a new guy, i sometimes like to be vague to keep the mystery and other times i just tell the truth... My former female boss would NEVER tell her age even at her birthday parties...

Is there a right or wrong way to answer when someone asks "how old are you".... online it's no big deal, we share are ages... but IRL.... isn't it different.

Curious about how others think about the "age" question.

When people ask my age, I ask them back "How old do you think I'm am?" Usually it's 10 yrs younger. Then I tell them.

I keep seeing on online dating sites that people say they act/seem/look younger than their age. All that is tiresome for I think we ALL feel younger than we are (unless we have a physical aliment).

I believe that is one of the reasons why I look to younger women

Yah I always just say OLD lol. Being a gamer (not so much anymore) we would have picture threads on the forums and such. I always had the young 20 somethings trying to internet flirt. It was good for my ego lol. Its rather annoying now lol.

One advantage of being older than dirt is that no one asks my age anymore.

I get asked all the time when people realize that my oldest child is going to college this year.

LOL. I usually get this response when I tell people that D4 has an older bother who is 19 and on his own in UT-" What, did you have him at 12?!" I just laugh and respond I am older than I look. You will appreciate it more when you are in your late 40's. I used to be totally annoyed when people would make assumptions about me based on their erroneous perception that I was 10-15 years younger than I am. Now, I just take it as a compliment. At least I've finally stopped being asked for ID when I buy alcoholic beverages at the grocery store. The last time that happened was my 40th birthday.

People don't really ask me - but if they do I tell them - no worries for me.

I've had the same thing happen to me at my part-time summer job at the bar/restaurant. Most of my co-workers are in their 20s, and a few are in their early 30s (I would guess although appearances can be deceiving). One of the guys at work, who is 27, who flirts and cracks jokes with me asked me how old I am. When I told him I was 40, he was shocked and thought I was joking, but my age doesn't seem to bother him. He still flirts with me.

I used to tell guys pretty soon after I talked to them or on the first date how old I was and divorced with 3 kids. I felt like I was misleading them to think I was 26, 27 or 28 and single.

I'm a little more vague about my age now if I'm just talking to or flirting with a guy. Since most of our customers are guys, I do tell guys that I'm divorced and have 3 kids with the oldest being 11, so if he can do some basic math, that would make me at least 30.

I don't usually ask people how old they are so I don't know why some people feel the need to have an exact number. Good question loonybunny.
