Okay, so after the hot date, I emailed AW and told him how much I enjoyed our evening.

Wow.. are you sure you are not a widow living in Portland? LOL.

I know I'm the WRONG person to chime in here...

Mark,

I don't believe you are the wrong person.

Well for one thing I give AW credit for owning up to getting freaked out. A lot of men just ghost when they feel an intensity and they never say why (or maybe dont even really know) so thats good that he seems honest!

I think answering that email is called for maybe with a response that mirrors his concerns with your own and also mirroring his attraction. Something like "I feel that connection too, and yes that can be scary to me also. I'd be happy to slow things down, cool off a bit. I like you and would hate to ruin a good thing by moving too fast..." Something along those lines.

I too give him credit for being so open and truthful rather than just ghosting as some do.
In your place I would thank him for the compliment on your part of the chemistry equation surprise and tell him you consider that to be very important and an enormous check in the list of what you need for a great love relationship ( assuming this is true for you since for some it might not be - but for ME it is!). But then I might reassure him that you know there are many other things you both need to see in one another over time to check off the rest of the things on the list before things are truly in cruise mode. This might let him know that you dont equate chemistry to soul mates and remind him to do the same. Those are just my two cents.
It is great news though and certainly it is wonderful that you are on the same page as to how hot it was....even more great news that he can articulate how it makes him feel.

Maybe you could explain that it has been a long time and you were quite surprised as well and maybe this is a lesson to stay out and about more til you get to know each other. That dating is all new for you but it is sort of fun to feel like a school kid?

Keep it light and positive. At least that is what I would do. And then I would do a big chill and give him time to think and respond.

Gee, I wish he had commented on something other than your ability to 'make him horny'.

Considering the fact that all it takes is a slight change in wind direction to make most men horny, I'm not sure I would really buy the line about "I didn't know a woman I hardly know could make me so horny." It sounds like he's just trying to push it in that direction if that was all he responded with. If I connect with a woman in any meaningful way, I call her the next day and let her know (although not always that direct I guess - but I definitely get in touch with her right away so she knows that the time we spent mattered to me.)

I dare say that was exactly what I was thinking as well....
