Wow - what a whirlwind weekend I had.
Flew to the great northeast for a race. Airlines lost my luggage but managed to find it late the night before the race.
Had a great swim - got really out of breath at the start because the water was cold and I was afraid that everyone behind me would swim over top of me - but kept swimming and that didn't happen.
Rode the bike for over 50 miles hard in the hills, wind and cold and then ran 13 miles on a hilly course. Didn't stop til the end. I finished in about 6 hours. Felt strong at the end and went out for lobster with my friends - they had a special buffet for all the athletes at night.
Was not quite as fast as what I wanted - but had a much better time than 2 years ago on the course. So that is good. I think the cold had a very negative influence on my race - i am not used to it - and learned a lesson to bring MORE clothes to stay warm!!
Had a lot of fun with friends that I met through my coach. It was just a great "me time" get away. I cannot speak enough for "mommy me time" because you come back to your life fresh.
DS did really well while I was away - this was the weekend before his first day in middle school. But we had everything done and he was really ready. He was with his dad pretty much the whole weekend and then went to the neighbor's house and went in with them. I picked them up from school with the puppies in the car and treated them to anything they wanted at McDonald's - and boy did they all ring up a big bill. But they enjoyed it so much.
I was rewarding one of the boys for getting a snake out of my pool - so he was proud that his efforts took the whole carpool for such a treat. And DS was beaming with all of his favorite stuff and the fact that he was in a middle school uniform just like the rest of them.
Lifeguard took the day off from extra work to pick me up at the airport. He was also really good about texting and calling to make sure I was doing okay with the missing bike and getting ready for the race and congratulating me at the end. And that was nice. It is so fun that he races too so he totally understands all of my stories and details.

6 solid hours of that? MY God! It was hard enough for me to be out on the road doing a regular marathon for several hours. I can't do 6 straight hours of ANYthing... even TV much less swimming, biking, and running fer God's sake!
Single mom, full time worker, AND have time to do a triathalon PLUS a relationship to boot?!?
Congrats!

& it sounds like things are going so well with your life. AND lifegaurd! WHOO HOO!
Welcome back, I'm glad you had a good time!
I don't know if you ever said exactly where it is you were, but I'm in upstate NY and it's definitely been COLD here the last week or so! I typically don't haul the sweaters out until October or so, but I've been pulling them out one by one this last week.
How exciting for your son to be in middle school now- what a huge step for him! Kudos to you for giving them a treat for being such ood snake exterminators, and I'm glad thing swent well for your son's first days of school.
It sounds like this was a great mommy break for you, and you can see your racing progress through the times from years past.
Bravo, and welcome back!
Moody, tired just from reading your post

First of all I envy you and and the "cold". I would like that word defined for me so I know what that means. I love the cool days of fall (60-65 degrees) with sweaters, no jacket required but we have few days like that. It has been at or above 100 degrees here for nearly a month. It is unbearable and we barely get outside.
Send some cool weather my way, I have no idea when we are even expected to dip back to the 80's (80 has been the low most nights)
Priscilla (wishing for fall)
Congratulations on the race. Sounds like things went well!!!
I would love some "cold" weather. I hate the heat and it seems no cooler days in sight for us.
Priscilla
Priscilla, I didn't see this until now, but EVERYONE here is wearing at least a sweater. I haven't left the house in just a top in at least two weeks. Last week it warmed up to a high of about 70. At night, it's been in the 40s.
This week so far it's been gray and rainy and topped out yesterday at 70, which is not warm when it's raining and blowing. I love the fall- I'm just not ready for it to start quite yet.
The good thing is that the pumpkins and apples are now in season, the bad thing is everyone's prepping their gardens for fall- including covering the flowers at night for fear of frost.
I can't remember a time when it got this cold for this long so early- but it's also a very rare occasion for us to be above 90 degrees.
Moody, who is definitely not ready for frost and snow- although the skiing would be great!
