Your DS is the same age as mine. Mine goes back after Labor Day. We're not looking forward to it at all. Long story that involves IEP plans, meetings, and special education services. If I could homeschool, I would.
My ex doesn't offer to buy school supplies or clothes. Sometimes, he buys clothes...but I never use them because they are so hideous. Bright colors, oversized. Shoes way too big. I don't need his support. If he disappeared into the night, I wouldn't go after him for the child support.
Android goes into grade 2, Princess Spasticka starts kindergarten (YAY), and they go the Wednesday after Labor Day. We're so excited we can hardly stand it- actually, the Princess and I are excited, since it means shopping, and her teacher's going to be the only male teacher, which thrills her no end. Droid's just happy to see his friends again, but we still don't know who his teacher is yet. I also buy only what's needed now- first of all, I don't have space to store lots, and we're getting ready to move, and Droid outgrows things so quickly. The Princess just likes to have lots of clothes, so she's happy to get one thing every week rather than lots of new things all at once. I buy pretty much everything myself- if Droid's dad helps, its a bonus I haven't counted on. My exh doesn't help with anything- I'd be surprised if he knew how old the kids are- he definitely doesn't know what size they wear!
The bed time is going to be a huge issue for sure. DS has been going to bed late. And he has had so much fun with his friends. I am not looking forward to getting him out of bed and dealing with the homework and studying - but I am looking forward to peace and quiet in my home office and a lot less mess around the house. I guess there are always tradeoffs.
I am ready - recycled much of the school stuff from last year (keep a closet shelf reserved just for that stuff) and uniform supply is good. Shoes are good. He has had a lot of homework over the summer - 2 books plus book reports/projects and a stack of math papers that total over 50. We have been plugging away at that and are almost done. I also had him in a university reading enrichcment program at the beginning of the summer so hopefully his skills are polished.
I spent 3 hours on cleaning out the car so it is ready for carpool. So I guess we are good to go.
Exh doesn't help with any of that stuff. But I do get child support so I don't expect it - am grateful to have that. And I am glad to be the one to manage all the school stuff because I do a brilliant job.
Oh - I think we need a haircut - will have to fit that in.
Hi Ladies, It's been a while. I've been working like a demon these past few months between my fulltime HR job and my part time plus size modeling work. I've gotten a lot of catalouge work lately, and that's been great. I'm paying off all my cc debt, and saving to buy my first home. I wasn't going to vacation this year- but I made a little extra $$, and I am just so tired and burnt out that I deperately need one. We go to Disney World in Orlando the last week of August! Yay! While there I will treat myself to a much badly needed message and spa treatment at the resort I'm staying.
Since we come back a day before school starts, I have to have everything ready before we leave. I took dd shoping for clothes this Saturday, first of all she's growing like a weed, so almost everythng from last year dosen't fit, and now she wears a bra! Yikes! She starts 7th grade this year and is a big time fashionista, she took 3 1/2 hours just to pick out all her clothes, and that's because I threatened to leave if she didn't hurry up and make up her mind. Anything I suggested was met with-" Eww-ugly". Her dad dosen't contribute a dime, because as he puts it: "I give you child support, that's all you're gonna get". he never gives a dime towards anything else she needs.
Since she wakes up very early for her day camp, bedtime has stayed the same, so that should be an easy transition. I have to go school supply shopping this weekend, so we should be set. Her music items will come after school starts, I don't know what instraments she'll be assigned to this year. She's a piano player, but her schools band dosen't allow students to play it (teacher's part), so because she plays many others they assigned her 3 others last year (zylophone, percussions and timbales), she loves it because she dosen't get tired of one thing. She goes to a music school on the weekend for her piano anyway. She wants to try out for The School of perfoming Arts(The Fame school), her teachers think she has an excellent shot, but I warned her this year is crucial(High schools look at the 7th grade closest), so she has to repeat her last years grades and all. She can be an obnoxious pain at times, but I'm really blessed with a great kid.
My babies went back today. School started Aug. 9 but kindergarten and pre-school didn't start until aug. 14, today. Angelina, my oldest going into Kindergarten told me mommy you can leave now. I was tsanding over her shoulder and kept asking if she was gonna be okay and told her I didn't want to leave. She looked up and said but mommy I want you to leave, this is my class. So I left teary eyed, and she was sitting there like whatever. I had switched her school sbecause of her father and they've already lost all of her school supplies she took on Wednesday when she had to take the Kindergarten aptitude test. They said they would look but guess what, they coul find the tissues and ziploc bags they requested but not her school box with $20 in school supplies, uuugghhh!!! Karyana , my 3 yr. old started pre-school today and she cried and bawled when I went to leave. I took her back in and I told her a fib, which I'm not prooud of myself for but i told her I had to go to the bathroom. I grabbed James Wyatt ( my 15 month old, who still doesn't walk ) and headed towards the bathroom snuck out the side door and was like she'll be fine. Angelina loved that teacher when she was 3. I picked her up early and she was so happy and she told her teacher I wont cry tomorrow. So I guess she did good. About to go pick Angelina up in about 30 minutes so hopefully they found her stuff and she had a good day. As for school supplies, my mother bought Angelina's supplies, I spent $300 in school clothes for my girls and James' mother bought each of the girls a pair of sneakers and a backpack and lunchbox. My ex didn't want to go to school with me today to drop her off, I even offered for Chelsea to come along ( his new g/f ) and he said he couldn't. He doesn't work.
OOOH - we've got a new School Days gallery where you can all share your first day of school pictures! (http://photos.ivillage.com/parenting/schooldays/) It's free for all members to upload images and a great way to share things with the board!

Good to see you back - glad to get your update - and GREAT that you are getting caught up on the bills. Way to go!!
I always wake up at 5AM without the alarm. Sick, I know.
I ate some bananas and caught up some email - tried to go back to sleep - to no avail. At 6:22 I went into DS's room and let the puppies out - they sleep in their cages in his room (otherwise no one sleeps because they want to play and go out at night!). We all snuggle together in DS's bed.
He gets up and gets ready - takes a 20 minute shower. Then eats breakfast.
Runs out the door without a care - bye mom! Has all his stuff. Doesn't miss me or care he is starting school - not nervous. The carpool was waiting with his 2 friends.
Uneventful so far. :) My son starts first grade this year and they go back on August 28. My fall semester ALSO starts on the 28th. lol I guess he is excited. He hasn't really said anything. Been too busy playing. :)
My ex bought the school supplies and I paid half. I bought Logan some clothes, shoes, lunchbag, etc. to start school with. Don't know if his dad bought any. I'm sure his mother (my ex mil) bought some for him. :) lol
Thanks Judy, Time really flies by with the kids. So you really have to treasure it. You're lucky your ds moves fast, wish my dd did. She wakes up fine, but drags her feet the rest of the way. I have to be like a drill sargent and tell her to move it! Thanks for reminding me that school starts in FL already, I have to call my graddaughter and see how her first day back went.
