The funny thing here is that the earlier I get DS up for school, the faster he goes. If we get up late it seems that everything takes twice as long.
We have had our share of express mornings. I dread those.
We seem to need an hour. And believe me, I am bugging and drilling a lot of the way. "get out of the shower - what is taking you so long?" "hurry and eat" "don't forget to brush your teeth" "hurry the carpool is going to be here in 10 minutes and you haven't eaten yet"
I already give her lots and lots of xtra time, and I have the 10 minute warnings system, but sigh.. she's just like my older son was(they are born on same day-11 years apart), a laid back girl. Although everything is done the night before, she always has a last minute thing she forgot. We get out the door ontime everyday, as I have a 2 hour commute and her bus picks her up very early, but I would just love one uneventful morning, sigh....... This year should be a challenge, as she will no longer recieve bus transport, NYC cuts kids off at grade 7, they give them a metrocard and they are on their own. I have to teach her how to take public transport on her own, which I really don't like, but don't have a choice.
I work in Midtown Mannhattan in NYC, unless you are very wealthly, you can't live there. Even if I had the means to do so, I wouldn't as I find it way too crowded and noisy. Where I live in Staten Island, there are a few jobs, but I would have to take a 20-30K per year salary cut and that's not an option. I used to work across the street from the World Trade Center, and that was an hour commute. In the fall I will be job hunting, so I will concentrate my efforts in the downtown area. Unfortunately for NY'ers long commutes are a part of life here. The well paying jobs are in Mannhattan and most of us can't aford to live there. Many of my co-workers have the same or if not a longer commute.
Morgan starts 2nd grade tomorrow. I take care of getting most/all of her school supplies and clothes but her dad pays for half of it all. I just say "Hey, this cost xxx." And then he says "O.K." Then I transfer the money from his account to mine. Pretty sweet, huh? If I tell him she needs something and then explain specifically what it is and where he can get it from, he normally does.
My ex doesn't do any of the school shopping- especially supplies, because he doesn't have access to the lists. So I do all of that.
He did buy them a few shirts while he had them this summer. And bought each of them one pair of new athletic shoes- but I'm griping about that (even though I should be appreciative of his efforts). MonkeyButt has been wearing size 2 for most of the year- and he buys another pair of size 2s. So it won't be long before I will be getting him some larger ones anyway (and not getting the mileage out of the new pair like I like to get mileage out of shoes before tossing them). MonkeyBunny has been wearing size 13 most of the year and what does my ex buy??? Size 12.5!!!! So that pair is already out of here!!! Apparently MonkeyBunny wore them some while he was with my ex- (and OUCH for his feet if he had to wear them alot!) so they're scuffed-up enough that I can't take them back to exchange anything. Pretty soon I will be buying him some size 1s anyway. But 12.5... sheesh. What was he thinking?!?
As for my kids being picky- they're not. They're typical boys- as long as it's a shirt/shorts combo or shirt/pants, they don't even care if they match or not. It matters more to me whether they match- but I'm getting better in not even letting that bother me. Hey- they're dressed- that's enough! lol I know once they get older and start being aware of their appearance or fashions- then it'll matter. But until then- I'm riding the ride of unawareness because it's cheaper and easier while it lasts! ;-)

Taina,
You need to do what you can to give her more time in the morning to be her "slow" self.

What would they do without us? :-)
