Is this ok to discuss here? I hope so!
Disclaimer: I am not sexually active at the moment, but this thought is always in the back of my mind. I have no idea what to do once I am.. ya know?
What do women over 35 use? What has worked and has not worked for you?
I tried an IUD and ended up having it surgically removed.
I tried Depo and ended up on anti-depressants it messed me up so badly! haha
Are there any decent options out there for us?

Ok, let me clarify that.
I stopped taking the pill on my 40th birthday, because I have a really high risk of breast cancer and it was giving me migraine headaches. I figured at that age I was unlikely to get pregnant. Well as you know in the above post, I did get pregnant with a perfectly healthy little girl at age 42, and she was born after I turned 43. My current doctor recommended a low dose pill, because my risk of heart disease is very low and the breast cancer connection did not hold up in further research. My risk of getting pregnant and dying from complications related to pregnancy at an advanced maternal age are much greater than risks from the pill. And I have not had any headaches associated with this new pill after a year of use. My only other real option is a tubal, but that seems like a whole lot of invasive hole poking in me for only a few years of protection.I have to go through menopause eventually. I still have occasional tweaks of discomfort from the breast biopsy I had in Oct. 07. I just can't fathom any more unnecessary holes being punched into me.
Find out why a doctor recommends against the pill. The new pills, which are much lower in dose than the older formulas (which all that news was about), have not been in use long enough to say what effect they have on overall health. Pregnancy is no picnic after 35. You have to weigh the risks in your particular case, with your particular health factors.

That IUD is exactly the same one I had surgically removed. I was told it was caused by the person who put it in (wrong) but still I have major fears :/
I never ever could feel the string.. and I was told by friends from the get go that something was wrong if I couldn't feel it. Still paranoid though :/

I echo this remark - I also have the Mirena IUD - I did a lot of research before picking it - it is highly acclaimed by WHO for women over 40. It was a little painful going in but now okay - don't know it is there at all - no periods.
Momuk2socal - please update us when you do get it out - what is that like? I have another 4 years on mine.

I'm pretty late jumping in on this one..
The only man I have been with since my divorce has been BE and he has had a vastectomy. So I don't use anything else.
If I had to worry about it though, I suppose

LOL!! That cracked me up! But good for you - I can understand your decision and never mind how you are struggling now. But the way you wrote that was funny to me.
