Breast reduction and dating

Hi,
I have just joined, and really enjoy reading the discussions...I have started dating very recently after a long break (I have a 6yo d--single mother by choice). I am doing match.com and have met 2 men who I really like, they seem to like me, and have seen each a few times, though nothing physical yet (but hopefully soon...) So, I have also lost some weight, but not in my breasts--and went to a plastic surgeon who says because of my frame size I would qualify for BR surgery. I have mixed feelings about it, but they are too heavy for my body, and it's not going to improve even if I lost a little more weight. (They got bigger w/pregnancy, and never went down). So, are there any single women out there who have been dating before/after this surgery? What implications, if any, are there for intimacy/awkwardness? Of course, I have to get comfortable talking about this with them, if I decide to go ahead w/it...and I imagine they would wonder why?
So, any thoughts?
Mary

Is there a way for you to talk to others who have been through it? Perhaps an internet search for a forum? I am not sure if he can give you names of patients who have done it - but perhaps he has some nurses working for him who have?

As with anything physical we are not sure, with the right guy it won't matter.

Sorry, I do not have direct experience with breast reduction surgery. I only know of one person who has had it done, but she wasn't dating anyone before her surgery or after her surgery. She doesn't want to date or get married.

It's my impression that the surgery improved her life though. Her back problems subsided and she got out and did more stuff after her surgery. She was able to start buying bras in stores, instead of special ordering them. However, her recovery took longer than she anticipated. She took an extra week off from work. And, she gained a little more weight following the surgery. I've heard this from liposuction patients too. Be careful that you do not put on back on the weight that you had removed from the surgery.

Well, bingo - sure glad you showed up - I had no idea that iVillage had a breast reduction board - but I know I would want to visit there - and hopefully our dear original poster will as well.

Thanks for stopping by and giving us your post!!

How are you doing? Weren't you talking about moving at one time?

I am near Miami - welcome to FL!! I used to live in Tampa - it is a fun place with lots to do. Good luck with getting more settled in. It is GREAT to wear tank tops in December!

Liz,
Thanks for your sharing your experience w/ BR & the info on the site. I'm sure I will make good use of it. My surgery is set for April. As far as the weight and dating are concerned--it only took me 6 years! I think you will date, and have the confidence to date, when you are ready, or when you meet someone you could potentially be interested it. I never thought about dating much until I fell for someone this fall (unfortunately it didn't work out). I couldn't eat or sleep for months, so I lost enough weight to give me the confidence to go out there and try with new men (match.com). I wish I could say it was will power.
Good luck, and thanks again,
Mary (juggling 3 dates next weekend--waiting to crash & burn...!)

It is season in the hotels - and they always need people - the tourism business there is quite good - maybe you will find something in that?
