Child Support?

I have been thinking about this for a while and I thought I would get your opinion on this.
My ex and I have joint physical/legal custody of our son. I realize that this means that the child support is not going to be a whole lot every month. It has been 5 years since it was calculated, it was never recalculated for the finalization of the divorce. My question is, how often should you update the child support amount? I am making only about $5K more now than I was 5 years ago. My ex, having just gotten his engineering degree when we separated, is probably making loads more now that he is a full fledged engineer. I know I have to take into consideration insurance and any type of before/after school "daycare" as well.
I was hesitant to go to mediation to try and adjust the amount given that I don't know ALL of the circumstances that I USED to know with my ex. The thing that has sent me over the edge is that I JUST found his wife's job advertised in the newspaper so that means she is going to be a stay-at-home mom now. They just had a baby in March. I doubt that she got a new job straight off of maternity leave but I never know. I don't want to assume but wouldn't that be odd? Now, if he can support her, Logan, AND a new baby, wouldn't that mean that he is making good money? They don't live shabbily either.
So I guess what I am trying to get across is, since it has been 5 years since child support has been determined, should I go to mediation to see if I can possibly get more? Especially now that I am a part-time student?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Jennifer
