Did you go back to your maiden name?

Having an identity crisis here....

Did you go back to your maiden name after the divorce? Here's my dilema.. my driver's license is still in my maiden name because i didn't have the paper trail to update it (and it's two marriages behind... still with my birth name).

My Social Security card has been a different story.. I've updated it each time I was married. So, many of you might remember that my girls lost my purse, they also lost my SSN card AND my last marriage cert.

Getting a new drivers' license was easy.. i just brought my birth certificate.. got my license with my maiden name... no big deal, or so i thought.

Now because of the new job, i need a copy of my SSN card but I lack the paper trail for my name... So, i have an opportunity to go back to my maiden name. Would you?

Originally, i was going to leave it as the married name because it would be a pain to change and because 2 of my 5 children have that last name... Now, i have to go through the trouble anyway......So, confused......

I go tomorrow to the court house so please respond tonight...

What would you do or did you do?

I kept mine the same as the married name, despite all my girlfriends and family arguing about it. My Chief was actually about to order a new name tag till I told him he didn't need to.

I think I knew that I would end up a single parent with my boys. We have the same last name and over the last 12 years I've sure as hell earned it. We, the three of us, are a family. Where the name came from is fairly irrelevant. So, for me, its just easier and important to me that we are all the same.

Just my side of it.

I know I'm jumping in a little late...

Nicolas has his dad's last name- we WERE supposed to get married, so it just seemed right.

also jumping in late here (life has been a little crazy here - an accident and 2 near misses which would have been a he.... of a lot worse than the accident, all in one week).

I was told by someone years ago, that keeping the married name, same as your children was less confusing for everyone and I agree!

I kept my married name as it is the same last name as my kids. I didn't think about changing it back to my maiden name because I actually like my married last name better. It also would have been too much hassle as my driver's license, social security card, credit cards, etc. have my married name.

This isn't exactly on topic, but is in the same vein. One of my close friends recently married and his wife kept her last name. Now that they are expecting, they are in a quandary about the child's last name. Unfortunately, if you hyphenate it or combine the names to make a new one (yes people do that...nuts in my opinion) it sounds like something naughty or gross. Certainly nothing anyone would want to go by for the rest of their life. The whole issue could have been avoided if she had just taken his name :/

Changing my name will be more of a hassle than I thought... I went to the courthouse to get some paper work.. I got two divorce decrees and one marriage license... I forgot that my first marriage was in a different city.. so I have to try again... But do you think I'll need both if my second marriage license has my maiden name in the "maiden name" section.

And I found out that i'll need to file a court petition to change my name... too much hassle. I'm thinking now of just finally going back to the DMV and changing it to my current married name on my drivers license... I pretty much just want to do what is the easiest at this point... I don't really care what my name is anymore....

And if I update my driver's license, then I can get a replacement social security card using that.... Then I'll be able to get paid properly from my new job... Oh, it would have been easier to find my lost purse. sigh.

changing it back to my maiden name after it's been a couple years after the divorce is the reason it will be a hassle.
