my oh my oh my........i made the mistake of getting on the scale last week and found that i had gained 15 pounds in the last year and a half.

I was at my fittest when I did circuit training.
Oh, I've been there! But yeah- I'm one of the ones who will say to do it WITHOUT the drugs and chemicals!!! You just never really know what those things might do to your body.
Stepping up the movements and cardio is good- but don't ignore the huge benefit you would get from weight training! It's HARD for a woman to end up all bulky, so don't be scared to lift some weights! You don't have to do alot. Start with 3 or 5 lbs if that's all you can do. But work out hard enough so you feel the muscles burning once you get to about 10-12 reps. If you can do more than 15 reps, then you need a heavier weight. If you can't even reach 8 reps, then you need to back off a bit on the amount of weight. I'd give you some sort of routine- but there's alot you can do- and you can pretty much google for all sort of weight routines, and see what you might like. Or surf some fitness magazines and jot down some things you can do.
Watch what you eat! If you eat fairly healthy already (not all fried or fast foods, or too many sweets), then you might want/need to back off on the amounts. When I first started watching my intake, I was SURPRISED at how SMALL some portion sizes really were- and how I was simply overeating at every meal without realizing it! Like a serving of a baked potato being the size of a computer mouse. And to think I would eat these

I'm one of the exceptions.
Your calorie needs do decrease with age. So does your muscle mass which does burn calories. If we do nothing to maintain muscle mass we lose something like 6% a year after the age of 35.
I do struggle with my weight. I mean, I am a size 4 which is great for my age and I look thin. But since I care about race times, I keep a constant eye on the scale. One bad week can easily put on 2-4 pounds - by bad week I mean buying cookies and eating out too much. A good week equals lots of fruit and salads and oatmeal, pasta and rice - all lowfat and home made. Fish and beans for protein. I don't eat fried food and try so hard not to eat a lot of desserts. Everyone else who is into my sport does the same.
