BRAVO!

I remember when DD's Montessori school had a father-daughter breakfast.

Good for you!!!! I agree!!

That is so out of date - many families are not intact and many dads travel or work. So it should be a sweetheart dance for all kids and bring an adult sweetheart - could be mom, grandparents, aunts, uncles, whatever.

I think it is great. You are awesome for writing that. We have father son breakfasts at my DS's school and I try and not even let my son know about them because if I do he might get disappointed AGAIN. I always forward the email announcements to his Dad with the same message "Let me know if this interests you." but I never hear back. I dont ever want him coming at me telling him I never told him about stuff. But I know in my heart these special things would never mean what they should to my EX. So far I have protected DS from it all but you are inspiring me to maybe write something too next time it comes up.

OMG!! They still have those??? How AWFUL for Avery! That is just ridiculous. I can't believe in the divorce rate being as high as it is that they still have that sort of thing going. Although, they also have muffins for moms and donuts for dad and that just got me FURIOUS because Nina's Dad can't be their for her to attend. I think it's insensitive and ridiculous to have those kinds of activities anymore when they no longer

In my experience these are usually one song in the middle of a dance as a whole. If they are relegating an entire dance to Daddy/Daughter then I would consider that silly for all the people it leaves out. Sounds like an incredibly dumb idea.

Having two kids who cannot expect for their father to attend anything, I do understand. I also realize that this is OUR situation and things that are specifically for dads/kids are actually kind of nice for people who have Dads around. Sort of like when they make Mother's Day stuff at school, but never Father's Day. I don't feel like taking such a small thing away from others, just because my kids won't get anything out it.

Also, there are several dads who show up and participate in all of their children's events.

I totally agree. I cannot believe how the Girl Scouts and Ave's school are so 1950s. "Broken" families are more the norm nowadays.

The dance was called (& the invitations said) "Girl Scout Father-daughter dance".

Thanks everyone. I am glad the consensus goes along w/ my feelings. I just hope the school does.

Averey was just heartbroken - she has had a really rough few days since Friday. & this morning (Sun) was really tough for her as well. Her dad asked to take the dogs for the weekend, & I let him.
