Hey in that case I would have responded the same way. Its a pretty insensitive idea and I would hazard a guess that the women who planned it are not, and have never been, single moms.
An entire dance for just dads/daughters is excluding a lot of people, including dads who get called out or who work shift work. Not to mention girls who have a dad and a step-dad.
Grats to you for pursuing the issue.
Rebecca, Mom to Averey, 2/8/00, Kibo, Sana & Zuri too!
Wow, GREAT response from the GS! Lets hope the school does as well! lol
Hi Rebecca, thank you for bringing this to our attention. We are so sorry that this event caused such sadness for your daughter.
EXCELLENT!!!Now the only thing that ticks me off is that they have ENCOURAGED other troops and regions to NOT have these dances. Yet, some people are so insensitive that they continue to do so!!!!
I would throttle the girlscout leader in your area for being such a insensitive B word.
ok, I'm ok, I'm breathing.
lol ... yeah, I would have preffered "OUTLAWED!" In fact, i just spoke to OUR very VERY sweet GS leader this AM - she called about something unrelated so i gave her a heads up.
That is great you spoke up about that. I am sure a lot of families will breathe a sigh of relief!!!
And this is most encouraging:
"Many service units have changed the focus of father/daughter dances because of this. I have been in contact with the service unit manager in Middletown encouraging her to do this very thing in the future."
I bet the people who planned it in your area were insulated about the fact that not all families are intact or have a dad who can attend. But hopefully this gets them thinking better.
"There are so many worse things in life than this dance ... something like that makes you realize."
OMG - yes!!! That was a horrible night for you and those poor parents. So sad and tragic - my heart goes out to them!
You get some much needed sleep darlin! What an AWFUL night you had. You are so right, we can truly count our blessings that we have our healthy girls. I'm a worry wart too, so I worry about the weirdest stuff all the time when it comes to the girls. One of them: strangers. Because I work and they are latch key kids. That is why I am so glad to now have my dog. It makes us all feel safer, even though she's a total lame ham, but her BARK is outrageously scary and LOUD.
Well, Taz set up you up again, with the dogs.
