Allowed in School... Smoking in the Boys' Room... Smokin' in the Boys' Room... Now Teacher don't you fill me up with your rules, everybody knows that smoking ain't allowed in school....

So, I'm quitting smoking, ladies. Yay. Yippee. I know it's bad. I've always known it's bad. It causes lots of health problems, blah, blah, blah. It stinks. It stains my teeth, fingers, and everything else it comes into contact with.

I'm quitting because of many things, including the ones listed above. But my major motivator RIGHT NOW is my kids, my sax, and money. Whatever works, I guess, as long as I quit.

So, I'm fully into day 2 of no smoking AT ALL (I cut down drastically in preparation), and it's HARD.

I'll be posting a lot more, probably, to give myself something to do, haha...

Thanks, Janet. You know, the funny thing is, when I was pregnant, I had no trouble AT ALL quitting. I simply stopped smoking.

I tried telling myself I was pregnant... hehehe, that wasn't enough to curb the cravings (it just scared the crap outta me, really, LOL), so sugar free gum is my friend right now.

Moody!! I wish you the best of luck!!

I know it's not even the same, but I equate it to my soda habit. I am down to about 3 a week now, and I used to drink it 24-7... it's SO tough to give it up. I do really well for a few weeks and then, you know.

And besides the health benefits to you and your kiddo think of all the money you will save, too!

My mom belongs to a quit smoking board and she loves it. She quit a year before I had my daughter and has not smoked since. She saves all the money she would have bought cigarettes with and buys herself expensive stuff (new dishes, clothes, perfumes) as a reward. :) She even had a program on her computer to tell her how much money she is saving.

Good luck!!

Snow, I have my money earmarked for music (both for the sax and to listen to), and trust me, I know to the PENNY how much I'm going to be saving- and it's a lot!

I also have a side bet going with a co-worker who's quitting with me, more like a friendly thing, but since we're quitting together, we both have more incentive not to give up. Whoever makes it the longest gets a prize, and if we both make it... we split the prize, which will be fun, sine we're having an awesome time flirting! (WAY more incentive for me, at least, LOL)

I have been cleaning EVERYTHING, and it gives me something to do, which is good, but it also gets rid of the smell... bonus.

I am really glad I started living a healthier lifestyle BEFORE I tried to really commit to quitting, since I'm not replacing cigarettes with food. I was concerned about weight gain, but instead, I find myself excersizing, chatting with a friend, or just getting busy, instead of grabbing a piece of candy.

Good for you!! I smoked for 10 years and quit when I was 23. (yeah, I started early) I did it cold turkey and I am so glad I did. You will feel so much better. After awhile the smell of cigarette smoke will be very unpleasant!
Give yourself a pat on the back!

Well, I'm 25 and I've been smoking regularly (a pack a day) since I was about 15... I'm using the patch, since I've tried cold turkey, and the only time it ever worked was when I was pregnant, and the MINUTE I had those babies, I lit right back up.
This one's going to work!

I quit smoking 24 years ago from a two day a pack habit- it wasn't easy, but I kept at it.
Just take it one day at a time and just don't unduly put extra pressure on yourself by thinking about it 24/7. Keeping busy is good, also I applaud that you don't turn to food, unfortunately I gained weight when I quit, but so what, that dosen't bother me. As a consequence of my heavy smoking I have asthma, can you imagine If I hadn't quit, I probably would have graduated to emphysema or worse. When I smoked cigarettes they were .85 cents a pack-look at all that money I saved !

Quitting was one of the best decisions I ever made in my life, it will be your too.

Oh wow!! This is GREAT news!!!

It is hard - but you can do it - every day will get a little easier and pretty soon you won't miss it. If you can make it through 2 days you can make it through another. And another. And another!!

Keep us posted!!

I have tried, but I guess not as hard to quit completely, I smoke about 6 cigarretes a day and people say that with smoking so little I should just quit. I always feel proud of people that have a strong willpower. Keep it up, I may have to keep looking up to you to feel inspire to quitting that nasty habit. Congrats and be strong!
