Gaining Baby Weight

UGH! I don't know whether to laugh or cry. I know it's normal to gain while pregnant, but I wasn't expecting to right now. With Dylan, I had such awful morning sickness and lost 20 pounds. I only gained 17 back so I barely wore maternity clothes and didn't show at all til 5 months along. Of course all pregnancies are different and I'm visiting expecting boards here and most women in my month are doing the same especially if it's a second child or more. So it's nice to know I'm not alone out here.

I hate how my clothes are getting tighter and soon I'll be shopping. I love to shop but not for bigger clothes. I can see a definite pooch forming, so I'm beginning to show at only 7 weeks. I'm not eating constantly either. Just normal meals and if I get a craving, I have it in moderation. I eat only if I'm hungry and only until I'm full and I take the time to enjoy each bite by chewing it thoroughly and not shoveling it in. I know this helps with multiple helpings. I never go back for more unless after taking my time I am still wanting another bite. I refuse to starve myself and it's not healthy anyway.

Now that my energy level is beginning to come back, I'm going back to the gym maybe tomorrow but most likely next week. I need to get a Pilates mat. I want to keep up my flexibility. On Tuesday, I see the doctor for blood work and then a week or less after that, we have the first ultrasound to see our baby. So think of us please.

Let's just hope when I go to the doctor that I don't find out I've gained like 10 pounds. I don't think I have. My clothes still fit, just a bit snug. Time to go looking for some elastic waisted stuff. I might find myself in more workout like pants. There are so many cute things out there in the stores with coordinating tops to wear. I can get away with that for a while. And it's so hot, I'll need shorts for at least another 2-2.5 months or longer.

I guess this weekend since D is at his Gammaw and Paw Paw's I'll shop some.

Hugs to you all!

Mel

Yeah, I planned on going to Old Navy. I like their stuff anyway. Very cute clothes. Annoying commercials, though, LOL!

As far as names, we have them already. The boy's name is a little bit of a challenge since we're not sure which part is the middle name and which is the first. They sound good switched either way. But my girl's name is done.

Anyone wanna know?

Sure we would love to know the names!!

Did you know that Express also has cute clothing that can be bought in a large size for the pregnant days? They are cute and cheap - I bought quite a few fun dresses there and so did a lot of my friends.

Regarding your post on weight - as long as you don't consume a lot of energy-dense foods (rich in sugar and fat) then you are okay, especially if you can get a little exercise each day. I found smoothies to be a big help when I had a sweet tooth - I would make those from fruit and skim milk and they were a better choice than ice cream or cookies!!

This is so much fun to hear your stories.

Have you told Dylan yet? Or are you going to wait a bit?

Dylan knows. He knew right away. It's funny because he insists it's his baby sister. But when I ask him if he hopes it's a boy or a girl, he says he wishes it was a boy, but he knows it's a girl. Strange.

For a boy, it's either William Wyatt or Wyatt William. Either way, he's Wyatt. I think I am partial to putting it in as the middle name even if we are calling him that full time.

Shane's name is not Shane. It's his middle name. He's also a William and so was his dad, who went by Bill.

For a girl, it's Emily Cristine. Emily after my great-grandmother and Cristine after the fact that my parents originally were going to name me Christine Michelle. I just will spell it without the "H".

You like?

Love the names you picked out and very happy for you! Email me if you want to chat about preg or anything - we can compare notes and sypmathize with eachothers pains (wink)

I love all versions of those names so I will be no help at all.

But since Shane's name is not Shane and is his middle name, I think you should follow suit for Wyatt - use William Wyatt.

Good job!! And cheers to Dylan - children are so smart.

Yeah, I'm relearning the whole pregnancy deal too. After 5 years, it's just not all in my memory anymore. I do remember feeling nauseous, and the whole delivery, but nothing else really. Just him moving, but the early stages are a blank besides the dry heaves. LOL!

That's so cool that we're expecting the same time. I just found out you were expecting, but I had no idea when. I'd love to chat about our issues with ya. We can email and I also go to the April 2005 Expecting Board in ParentsPlace here in iVillage. I love that board! Lot's a familiar stories since we are all expecting at the same time. Come join us there too.

Feel free to email me at:

I know we have a lot to talk about!

I'm thinking I will use it that way too. I thought it made since to use Wyatt as a middle name too if we're using William. He and his father had that as a first name, so why not follow the tradition?

Dylan is really excited. He's been so gentle and sweet with me. If I don't feel well, he comes over and lies next to me and rubs my arm or face and says, "It's okay mommy. I'll take good care of you." He's so precious! He's so serious about it too. Like he can do it all for me.

Thanks for the advice. I think I will go that route. It just makes more sense.
