Gentlemen

I guess I'm a sucker for a gentleman. I never knew I was. I mean, hey, I can certainly open up my own doors and order my own wine and I'm totally capable of paying my way. But when I see a gentleman in action I can't help feel warm inside, and pleases to see that there are still men who like to be courteous.

I was on my lunch break doing some shopping and as I walked out of a building I saw an elderly man pull up to the curb to pick up his wife, also quite old. She had a cane and stood there as he pulled up next to her. A man (no, not an usher or a doorman) just a stranger to them) walked up behind the woman and said "Here, please let me help you". He opened up the car door for her, held her cane, and gently assisted her in the car. He closed the door for her and I saw a look on her face that was appreciative and maybe I saw dignity too. Dignity because she was being respected and not just trampled over by the hurry up world we live in. Some man gave her a hand. Unsolicited. Just because.

I loved that! Isn't is great there are still gentlemen walking the earth? Don't you just love them?

That reminds me of a conversation I had with DS awhile ago.

That's awesome to teach him that. I think a young man who is respectful will have that respect bleed into other areas of life. He'll naturally learn to respect not only women but teachers, the law, his elders, society. It statrs at home. Good job, Mom!

It seems as if they are a dying breed, gentlemen.

Thanks for sharing the story. I'm a sucker for a gentleman too. I plan on hanging on to the one I've got and together we'll teach my son to grow into one too.

My mom brought up my brothers to be gentlemen. I find it almost sad that we have to be so impressed because it is not the norm anymore. I don't have any little boys but if I had I would have raised them to be gentlemen too. For an older lady to be respected like that instead of overlooked it probably made her day.
