getting older and feeling it

OK So I found a grey hair. OK two of them. Bf pulled one out yesterday but I found one on my birthday of all days a few months ago. I am 34. I have gained ten pounds over the past year and look older, and have wrinkles!!! HOw can this be happening? I am slightly horrified and yet I think I might still be abel to save myself. So....I joined a gym again. I have been in in great shape before and I also have done bikram yoga all within the past five years so I hope my body remembers this. I have my first training session tomorrow to remind me. Wish me luck. I think it will be slightly embarassing to take the fitness test, admit I have a broken tail bone - you know, the usual.
Now to the wrinkles....mainly around my eyes a bit and on my forehead because I worry and squint a lot. I bought myself some sunglasses. DUH. I also invested in some different skincare that I have been looking at for months. I have good skin for the most part but I havent been really taking care of it. I dont always take off my make up properly ( I know, yuck but I get tired and just cant be bothered) and even though I do use moisturizer, I am not using anti aging stuff regularly. I need a routine. So I got that Clarisonic thing. That whirly brushy thing that looks like the toothbrush but is for your skin. I am psyched to try it. I dont know what anti aging products to look into but I figured I would take it one step at a time. A cleanser comes with the clarisonic and I have a day moisturizer from Olay with SPF and I will use that for now. I am OPEN FOR SUGGESTIONS!!!
I need to feel sexier and younger again. I dont really know when I let myself off the hook over here but I think some of the weight is love weight ( thats what I call it) SYB has gained weight too so we joined the gym together. I have never had a bf that went to the gym with me. I think it will help to do this together. We are also both really good cooks so I think we will be eating in more. The gym is actually walkable from our place and there are stores in between that have fresh fish and produce - really my favorite market, plus bank and pet store, etc. Very convenient.
Is anyone else feeling suddenly older and wrinkly? Misery loves company and all that. It is just rough to realize I am not that cute girl in my twenties anymore. Where did she go??

It's so bass-ackwrds and quite frankly scary that states legislators are making decisions on who gets to be a parent.

Wow - that is just awful to find out that your % of getting pregnant is so low. I can't believe how much the fertility drops after 40. I know at my age - 46 - it is probably nonexistent.

Do you meet many women who opt for IVF? And what about donor eggs with that?

The technology is just amazing.

Working in a smaller community hospital, I honestly dont see TOO many IVF babies. Out of 70 a year, maybe 10 are. But there are many more on Clomid (minor fertility drug to get pg).

That is well written! I never realized that infertility treatments cost so much. Is it to cover the R&D? Or are the treatments really that expensive?

And no, I can see how you don't want to go in the poorhouse with those - never to mention the costs that come afterwards with full time care. That is too hard by yourself. And too scary - at least to me - although with my age now - it really is not something I would consider.

I pray that your knight in shining armor has 4 kids to keep you busy - LOL!! Unless of course you could get LB to consider such a thing, eh? LOL!!

I used to say that too - about the kids - but I am finding as I date more and more - and perhaps as my age group is going up - that a man who has kids is a better person for so many reasons. And I would welcome them if they are older like mine. But I am trying to keep an open mind. Seem to be having trouble wanting to even go on a date! The last three callers have not been that stellar. Maybe I am too tired? Or maybe it is a good thing that I don't put on rose colored glasses and go dashing off hoping for something ridiculous? LOL!!

Well, I think life is what you make it - and as you can make it of course. Dara Torres is an olympic swimmer who is 41 and going for her fourth olympics. She is here locally so there is always a lot of press on her and I know several people who know her personally.

http://graphics8.nytimes.com/images/2007/11/18/sports/18torres.3.190.jpg

She is so driven and has not let herself get down by a few failures - like she has had 2 divorces. She has had a baby at 40 and is now full steam ahead to make it to the olympics again. She just broke the world record for the 50m freestyle - and that was her old record!!

I think attitude counts for a lot. Of course she is naturally competitive and very gifted as an athlete. But an inspiration to all of us. She works out 6 days a week and has no body fat!!

Edited to add - here is a video of her with her story - she is fantastic!

I have used a few different brands. All of them work. Basically go to a salon or beauty supply store and ask for a curling gel, it looks like gel but it enhances curls. Then either attach or get a hairdryer with a big diffuser on it. It looks like a big disc with knobs in it and it attaches to the end of a hairdryer. I have a hairdryer that came with one and is detachable and they arent hard to find. You get your hair damp but not quite dry and combed. Then you take some of the gel in both hands and scrunch your hair ends to roots in sections to bring out the curl . You then turn on the hairdryer with the diffuser and you kind of grab your hair in sections and put it in the disc and it wraps around on its own to the knobs and twirls on its own inside the disc, setting with heat. It sounds harder than it is I just take a handful of hair gently and place it in the disc and press the cone up against my head and wait 15 seconds and then you will see how it supports your curls. You need a hairpray that scrunches or just sets too so you dont lose the curl after it. It adds a lot of body to your curl the more you do it so for concerts I can get very glamorous or just very subtle defined waves depending. It also works to use the gel and then twirl your fingers around sections of it and let set with the dryergoing if you want that finger curl look aroudn the face some of the women get.
I hope this helps. It really does sound harder than it is. When my hairdresser showed me this I was shocked. it really gave me a whole new option.
