So glad to hear things sound better. My daughter had VSD,and it closed on its own when she was 5 years old. She was monitored by a pediatric cardiologist every 6 months at Boston Children's Hospital. From infancy till 4 1/2 we were told no change. They planned to operate when she was 5. At 4 years old she developed type 1 diabetes, and now we were terrified of her needing open heart surgery, as diabetes would cause complications. Then magically at her last appointment before scheduling her surgery the whole had completely closed!!! Although she had failure to thrive when she was a newborn, in the first 7 weeks she gained no weight, as soon as she came home (she is adopted and spent the first 7 weeks in foster care)her first week home she gained 2 pounds. So I like to think the failure to thrive was more knowing on some level she was not home, rather than from the VSD. She had perfectly normal toddler and preschool years even with the VSD. So relax and enjoy the baby and worry about the VSD when she is older, and with lots of prayers hopefully the VSD will take care of itself. I am very happy for you that things are looking so hopeful.
